Russia has a long history (prior to the revolution) of holy men or startets, if I remember the spelling correctly, who interpreted religion for the peasants. There was a cult that believed in sexual ectasy as the divine expression. Rasputin was a starets and it was said he also was a practictioner of the divine ectasy. That gave rise to the calumny about the Empress's sexual relationship with him.

Was this guy in that Woody Allen movie, Bananas? Remember that scene where Woody Allen was dreaming about being carried on a cross thru narrow streets? Then suddenly the group of monks carrying him on the cross run into another guy being carried on a cross causing a traffic jam. Woody then gets a case of road rage and yells angrily at the other guy on the cross for causing the traffic jam. Now I am wondering if the other guy on the cross in that scene was Jesus of Siberia since he also has delusions of being a deity.
