Bustamante Leads Schwarznegger in Recall Race [McClintock gettng 21% of GOP Votes]

Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

Ann will come around soon enough. I think she has actually been quoted as saying that Arnold is most electable which does not mean she favors him. I could be wrong in which case Ann is wrong for one of the very few times in her life.

For many Republicans the choice seems easy enough. “Anything is better than Davis, Schwarzenegger has a good chance, vote for him.” First of all, it is unwise to suggest that “anything is better than Davis” because to do so means that one would literally elect anyone to replace him. For anyone who cannot see the danger in such a proposition, try the following: “Anyone is better than Ted Bundy as a date for my daughter”, only to have “anyone” wind up being Charles Manson. It is true that some people are far more qualified than Davis, but not everyone, and to be sure, not even most. Without digging too deep, does anyone really think that Gary Coleman should be “anyone”? Second, I agree that Schwarzenegger has a good chance of winning, though I am not sure anyone can really tell me how this came to be the case.

Republicans really need to consider the ramifications of being awe-struck by a man who has never held a position in the P.T.A., let alone one that requires running a state while ignoring, because he is probably a ‘long shot’, a man like Tom McClintock. McClintock does not have the name recognition in Hollywood, or the money that comes with such, but last I checked, Sacramento was not suffering from a lack of performing arts, but instead, a government that is spending far more money than it takes in. Unreal to me is that in the current state of affairs; qualifications seem to be finding their way to the back burner, while popularity has taken center stage, literally. Californians have a choice.

I think electing Arnold is a minefield for the GOP and worse yet conservatism. If he has any successes the local democrats will attribute it to his liberalisma while every failure will be pinned on conservatism and his GOP affiliation.

For the most part there is no substantive difference between Davis and Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenpubbies would settle for Davis if only he had some charisma and an "R" next to his name.

Schwarzendoofus satisfies this need. When they look at Arnold they see Gay Davis on charisma steroids, with an "R" next to his name.

If the RINOs manage to elect Arnold which seems none too likely, you will find out what disaster really is and yes I have never seen a RINO disaster that I did not cheer.

The problem will be that it will be a very long time before California will trust its GOP to be a principled political party and not a pack of celebrity-mesmerized morons unfit to lead.

If the disaster should happen as quickly as one might expect with the nlikely Schwarzenkennedy at the helm run by Wilson's marionette strings, mabe the party delegation to the National convention will be saved. If not, it will have no credibiliy in floor fights.

If Doofus stays or Bustamante is elected, California will collapse into the hands of actual Republicans soon enough.

If McClintock is elected, your troubles are over.

Gun-grabbing, baby-killing, lavender smooching, tax-hiking, spendaholism is NOT Republicanism much less conservatism. The real war is always in the GOP. If there were a primary, this conversation would be entirely unlikely. There that wasn't so hard.
