Good news that the Mounties have pulled their head out of its hibernation lair... after all, it's summer in Canada this week....

But... what in the name of all the Saints does the reporter mean by: flight school — where training involves flying over the Pickering nuclear power plant .

All that does is scare people needlessly. Look, if you filled a single- or twin-engine training plane with as much TNT as it could struggle aloft with (remember that singer Aliyah and how she bought it?) and dashed it against any part of a nuclear plant you would have three results:

1. a very dead pilot.
2. a destroyed plane.
3. a mess to clean up.

That's it. Two or four thousand pounds of airplane, and payload (whatever payload it was) cannot breach a nuclear containment vessel. Period, full stop. Maybe if you could accellerate those two tons to Mach 6... it's like worrying that if you hit a mosquito with your SUV, the impact will break your windshield.

I don't expect reporters to understand aviation (and they never fail to prove my expectations sound) but is it too much to ask for them to have a junior-high level understanding of physics?

I guess so. Nuclear terror, my aching head.
