If I were to kill someone in a similar situation I would go to jail. The cop is almost certainly a coward or a vicious thug or both.

I think part of the problem is the attitude that leos seem to have nowadays.
Watch "cops" for an example. The condescending, bullyboy attitude does nothing to help diffuse a situation.
It's an ego thing the cop says "drop the rake" the guy says no.. kiss my a$$" .. then rather than suffer the "humiliation " of being disobeyed and looking for a way to calm the situation( like perhaps backing down a bit)the leo decides the best thing to do is shoot to kill.
Just wait until all those "peace keepers" from iraq come home and get jobs with the local sheriffs dept.
I m sure they'll know how to keep the civilian population under control.

Should the cop have stood still for a rake to the head? Is a rake a deadly weapon? Was it a leaf rake made of plastic or a metal one with long sharp tines? What should he have done? let's say you were the cop, what would you have done? Just curious here...

I guess you'd better throw-away your old issues of Soldier of Fortune and Combat Handgunner, and any other magazine that advocates "stopping power." Get yourself a .32ACP and lie-down like a wimp.
