LAPD has arrested 200 terror-related suspects

By Mariel Garza
Staff Writer

Los Angeles police have detained about 200 people believed to have connections to foreign terrorists, Police Chief William Bratton said Wednesday during a morning call-in radio program.

Bratton characterized those arrested as a "variety of individuals we feel have some connection to issues of terrorism."

He said the arrests were made in conjunction with federal agents and it is unclear whether they will face terrorism-related charges.

"Our philosophy is get them before they get us," Bratton said. "So if I can get them on an immigration violation, anything, we're going to get them."

Previously, LAPD counter-terrorism head John Miller has said there are people affiliated with al-Qaida in Los Angeles who have set up support networks and raised money for attacks.

U.S Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., also warned of the ongoing threat of terrorism during an address she gave Wednesday to the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

She said that there are thousands of al-Qaida operatives around the world, and many in the state.

"I can't tell you how many because it's classified information," Feinstein said. "But if I told you the number of terrorist cells in this country, you would be shocked."

Feinstein also complained that California is still not getting its fair share of Homeland Security funding to prepare for domestic terrorism, pointing out that Wisconsin has been funded at about $35 per person, while California has been granted about $5 per person in the state to pay for security.

With current alert for coastline attack risks, this is interesting. Combined Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor is the nation's largest shipping port.

Feinstein's comments about local al Qaida cells are also informative. Good news that the Chief seems to favor pre-emption, and to omit cconcerns for political correctness.

What method of execution do you favor after these Al Qaeda have gotten a fair military tribunal and have been convicted?

Hadn't thought of it, yet. I personally favor very slow, and very painful. (regardless of the USSC) paleo enough?

How about you?

I think this sounds significant and it is even more significant, than it sounds.

Clearly some 200 AQ types don't hang around LA for nothing.

This does seem to tie in with the latest warning.

Stragely enough DiFi has expressed concern about terrorists - but she will be shut up as usual by uber leftists who will cry "racism" at this latest action.

Firing squad, then feed'em to the hogs, with *.avi video files of all of the above (especially the latter) sent back to their friends and relatives back home, to get the message across.

On second thought, you are right, there probably wouldn't be much left after the hogs get through dining on them.

I hate journalists. Ok, so they've detained 200 people. When? Is it 200 people since 9-11-01? Or 200 people in the last week? Or what?

To detain a couple hundred people in a couple of years is nothing. But to think these people have all been hauled in within the last few days is big time creepy.

I know what you mean -- I was getting the impression it was recent, otherwise they would have said something like " over the past year" or some such.

Note also DiFi's comment about how we would be shocked if we knew the real number of terrorist cells operating here.

Then there was that FoxNews alert about the FBI alert for the US coast line a few hours ago today -- though I haven't heard anything more.

And of course the 9-11 anniversary is coming up and we also had a couple of major attacks in Jerusalem and Baghdad.

And AQ claimed responsibility for the blackout. I don't know whether or not they had anything to do with it, but in general I think there are signs pointing to preparations for future attacks.

I just hope we can foil them all.

If al Qaeda attacks the USA, it will be played as Bush's fault for messing around in the mideast.

Come on, DiFi, I'm a big boy, I can take it. Shock me! How many cells are there? This is just another Senate blowhard who raises expectations/fears and then like the other congressional worms with whom she works quickly disappears into the rotting Senate woodwork. She should have kept her mouth shut, but deviousness is a Senate trademark.

Two things, first, they want the money to prepare for the aftermath, not prevention, afterall, they can't score political points without an 'I told you so'. Second, even if Washington gave them the money, the police can't even ask foriegners if they belong in this country, but can give them cheap tuition or maybe soon a drivers licence.

These traitors should STFU!

The accusation wouldn't fly very long, like many of the rest launched by the left! al qaeda's terrorism plans and hatred for America predates GWB's presidency and his mideast involvement.

Exactly what I was thinking too. We live in Longview, Washington, just fifty miles downriver.
