Actually, the first rupture was in a pipeline approaching 50-yrs old. If there is one leak there probably are more. Because of Janet's envirobuddies and their politican friends, siting of a new line is next to impossible given the envirostudies and permits needed. The NIMBY folks come out of the woodwork with objections. I'm familar with two cases personally in NM where they are opposing both a new line and an older one that will be substantially upgraded before use. In the meantime, the old lines are subject to increasing failures.

In addition, the publicity this has received will certainly put would-be terrorists on notice that it isn't just the electrical grids that are subjet to disruption. Finally, I know how easy it is for a contractor or one of his employees to hit a buried line, even if it has been marked as required by law. As for Kinder-Morgan folks, the ones I work with take their job very seriously and no one is going to do something intentionally to cause a problem that would result in increased pump prices. Unfortunately, because the enviros and their lawyer and politican friends have shut down expansion of our energy production and transmission systems, we will see more of this, not less, in the future.

(BTW, one of my refinery friends said they are trucking fuel from EL PASO TO PHOENIX. UNBELIEVABLE!!)

BUMP for energy distribution problems. PING to others who would be interested in reinforcement on what they already know: How fragile our entire energy supply and distribution system really is.
