Busload Arrested and Led Away from Ten Commandments
WTVM ^ | 08-20-03

Posted on 08/20/2003 7:00:21 PM PDT by Selmo

Supporters of Chief Justice Roy Moore have been handcuffed and led away from the Ten Commandments monument in Montgomery. They had refused to leave the monument after Moore lost a last-ditch appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court this afternoon. The federal judge who ordered the monument's removal is now expected to consider a contempt of court finding on Friday. That could set the stage for the monument to be removed ... or fines imposed on the state.

Scores of Moore supporters sang and prayed outside the building as about 20 inside were removed from the rotunda. It wasn't immediately known if they would be charged by Montgomery police.

Associate Justice Douglas Johnston issued a statement saying he had proposed moving the monument to a private area of the judicial building after six o'clock this evening. He said that would avert any fines while Moore pursues appeals that could take months. But he said fewer than five of the justices concurred, and his proposal was not approved.

The associate justices have indicated they may take action later.

...Sinky was last seen driving THE bus away from scene with a rather big cheshire cat grin on his face....

Yeah.

I'm surprised they gave him the gig, after what happened with his last company.

Yep, maybe he's thinking how he can bring the boys home that he should have never sent overseas anyway.

Most likely he's thinking more about how to send others "home" (thats a word that could mean a lot of places) after 3000 deaths one day back in 2001 in NYC. At the same time giving "visionary" though as to how he could prevent another debacle much worse than that.

I can understand frustration with some since "Slick" sat behind the same desk as Dubya' for 8 years. (and we ALL know what HE accomplished during HIS tenure behind...or under... that desk now don't we?)

I was against the invasion of Afghanistan.
I was against the invasion of Iraq.

I was not against the toppling of either regime. I only dispute the methodology. The Israelis killed all of Munich Olympics terrorists over a period of time through covert tactics. They did not go rushing in like a bull in a china closet. We could have done the same.

The Congress abdicated its duty by voting to give GWB the power to strike Afghanistan and Iraq at any time with any force without a FORMAL declaration of war by Congress. ALL members who voted for that resolution should resign.

Yes, 3000 Americans were killed on 9/11 and GWB should be concerned about that, but on the average 4000 Americans are killed in abortion clinics every day in this country. I would have rather seen GWB call out the national guard to close every abortion clinic in the country rather than send our boys (including my baby brother who is an Army Special Forces SFC) overseas.

Our borders are not secure. The reason is political expediency. The terrorists got lucky on 9/11. We had let our guard down during Clinton's traitorous administration.

Our country is the most powerful in the world, but our government is made up of fallible humans, some of whom are corrupt. I am not afraid of a tin-pot dictator like Saddam Hussein, nor a fanatical terrorist like bin Laden. However, as our gov't is the most powerful in the world, I am afraid of it.

Resolving the issues of "The Munich Olympics" was taken to task in the most efficient way possible by the Israeli's at that time. The issues of Saddam in Iraq however was an issue that was allowed to be an issue for more than a decade by the world political as a whole. To say that what has and is being done in Iraq by the US is not efficient is just a statement of the misinformed. It has been, by a long shot, the most efficient, and lacking of collateral damage, war in the worlds history. The idea that we went rushing in like bulls is well it's nut's!

The Coalition went in after numerous UN resolutions, giving Saddam a chance to leave on his own, months of building a coalition, and still you think it was a bullish undertaking? I think not! It was more like a shrewd, well calculated to keep collateral damage to a minimum, efficient undertaking to alleviate the world of a tyrant and then some.

Abortion is the rule of law. Render unto Caesar, right? You make the martyrs of Rome proud. A deacon(?).

"We're witnessing the morphing of America into another Third World country. Solution? Deport the illegal aliens and change our immigration laws to revert to what the country was meant for: European immigrants."

I come into this thread late, but this cannot be ignored. You, sir, are a fool.

Please refrain from putting words in my mouth.

..."revert to what the country was meant for: European immigrants."

The Declaration of Independance and the Constitution of the United States of America might quibble with the interpretation above.

As he has has opportunity to express his opinion, so I shall also.

Well, that is awfully radical, and sensible, of you.

You appear to be one who understands the 9th and 10th Ammendments still exist.

God Bless you

The Federal Judge is an ass. The first Ammendment applies to the Feds - not to the several states.

Remember, the Constitution is written for me and thee every bit as much (more actually) as it was written for judges.

.And, incidentally, I'd be interested to know why it is that you think that it is improper for the federal judiciary to determine constitutionality. Do you object to Marbury v. Madison?

Absolutely I object. The Constitution does not say the Fed Judges have exclusive power to determine the meaning of the Constitution.

The POTUS and the Congree and WE THE PEOPLE have just as much right to decide its meaning.

This proud Christian thinks you are right to be embarassed.

The irony of so many the responses on this article is that these arrests were in no way related to actual acts of protection of the stone idol.

These would be arrests done to remove trespassers, and done under the putative direction of the Supreme Court of Alabama.

Of course, you could expect any form of tactical timing of arrests in civil disobedience by a bunch of slackjawed mouth breathers.
