Five years ago, a conference of Episcopalian church leaders flatly declared that the homosexual lifestyle was in direct violation of biblical scriptures. Therefore, they reasoned, it would be wrong to seat an openly gay bishop. In just the short time since, the homosexual agenda has inundated the culture, and the Bible has been tossed out on its axis.

Exhibit A - the recent votes by the Episcopal Church USA to endorse an openly gay man as bishop and to give the dioceses the option of blessing same-sex unions. The change is so pervasive as to separate the church from the very scriptures it was created to uphold. Already the decision is dividing the American church from the more conservative Anglican community throughout the world. A Ripple effect can be felt throughout all organized religion, which will no doubt have to address similar concerns in the near future.

In this day and age, any preacher who explains to his congregation that homosexuality is a sin will have hell to pay from the gay Mafia and the liberal media.

The attack on the Catholic Church has already begun, lead by two recently 'married' gay men, and with plenty of support from their allies.

This is the very definition of "liberalism." The liberal thinks he has been "liberated" from all absolutes.

Of course, the Word of God is as absolute as one can get.

Absolute, perhaps, but apparently open to "reevaluation," as Rev. Falwell points out in this sermon on divorce:

In a society with a 50% divorce rate, it is my conviction that the church must re-study the Word on this subject. Where we have been too unforgiving, we must reevaluate our position on divorce.

Later in this message, I will make it very clear that we can never change our position on God's ideal, which is one man for one woman for one lifetime.

But, as Christian workers, we are dealing with people where they are, not where they ought to be. We are also dealing with a huge percentage of the population. And since God loves everyone alike, divorced persons included, and since God wants to bring everyone into His family and doesn't want anyone to go to hell, it is imperative that the church learn the biblical approach to reaching 100% of the population with the gospel.

Some of my neighbors are shoplifters. They have had this orientation since early in life. Should I tell them that it's OK and that their shoplifting is morally equal to other forms of trade, and recognize that I have no place to suggest that their are any absolute standards? Should I inquire if they are available to teach at my children's Sunday School?

My brother-in-law is a Baptist minister and there has been an ongoing battle in his church by a divorced man who wants to be a deacon. Apparently the scripture clearly states that divorcees can not hold that, or any higher position.

The bottom line is that God's law does not change just because society becomes more accepting of certain behaviors.

If gay bishops are suddenly o-kay, then why not divorced bishops?

This is a slippery slope that man, not God, has opened.

Ordain them. Let them run the whole place. Don't disturb their self esteem except to enhance it.

One of the main reasons that some sins cause a person to be "banned" from positions of authority in a church or from church altogether, is to PROTECT others already in the church. To protect them from a bad example who might lead others astray, and to protect them from harm from the individual's behavior. It's a church's right and duty to protect the people in its flock. This demonstrates LOVE. Love Protects (I Corin 13).
