"'Will it be dangerous when Mars gets that close to Earth? It has me a little worried.' Others have e-mailed to say they heard there would be earthquakes or other disasters. One of the many rumors going around says the two planets will collide."

with people like these arround, I guess it answers my question about how tabloids ever stay in business.

Clearly I'm outgunned. Oh, well, here's one for the road...

And always remember the rules of dealing with space aliens:

1. Avoid eye contact.
2. If no eyes, avoid all contact.

Mars will not kill you. Saturn, however, will give you a mother of a migraine. And let's not even get started on what Uranus can give you after some bad Mexican food...

It's hard to believe that people that stupid could log on, let alone compose a question to space.com.

I looked at it too. got me worried.

"The gravity of Mars or any planet, given its relative small size and great distance from our own, is simply inconsequential. " It's not the gravity. It's the Martians. fact of mars. it's war. Mars being this close is a reflection of our society, all out war is at hand. Things will crumble in the next week, we will see. The Martians are not impressed with our openess about invasion and "terraformation" of their planet. it would mean certian death for them. compared to martians, terrians are infants in propaganda, we are only able to fool ourselves and even that is not that certain. The martian tradition of deception toward the terrians are routinely successful, but not effective in the leapfrog invasion they need and desire. Past attempts include the ice age, rebel terrians successfully countered with fire, but failed to keep the record. unfortunatly for us, at this time through modern martian science they are able to manipulate certian frequencies which we rely on on earth, mostly as a self defense towards our recent tresspasses. as such it have allowed them to <a href= "http://www.chron.com/content/interactive/space/astronomy/news/1999/solarsys/991008.html>alter code </a>and delay our self serving missions to this point. By landing and watching we have them worried but we need to Be concerned in turn. They are about to unleash a plan that will set the human race back 30 centuries at least. They will confuse us into attacking each other with our own weapons and we will all lose big. The wasteland of the desolated planet will be prime martianaform for them. It will only take them 20 years before the earth is habitable for their deranged life forms. I warn you now because we have little time. Day into night into day the hour gets closer. We have little time.

In the 21st century, the nightmare of H.G. Wells comes true. An expedition to the planet Mars results in the accidental destruction of an old Martian city, causing a mysterious force, called the Mysterons, to retaliate. The Mysterons appear to posses the ability to recreate anyone (or any object) they have previously destroyed, thereby gaining complete control over the person in question. The Earth is thus confronted with a host of enemy agents, which are indistinguishable from normal human beings.
