A Wright brothers replica crashes during take-off

BATH (AP) -- A replica of a Wright brothers plane crashed on take-off Saturday during an air show in Bath, but the pilot wasn't seriously injured.

Dana Smith of Limerick never gained altitude and the front wheel of his plane hit a curb at the edge of a parking lot, flipping over.

It sustained moderate damage.

The 68 year old pilot says he'll have his plane flying again within a week.

Dana Smith took a Bath last night
when his model plane failed to take flight;
"I'll try, try again
"it's just a matter of when,
"I wasn't wrong, but I sure wasn't Wright!"

Any flight that can't clear a curb during takeoff is going to be a bumpy ride. That's my hunch, anyway.

I heard that the Wright Brothers figured that they'd need hundreds of practice flights on their glider before they had enough experience to fly a powered aircraft. They were amazingly thorough.

Hope this guy at least practiced on MicroSoft Flight Simulator.

To be fair, the Wright brothers never had to deal with parking lots or curbs when they tried to fly.

LOL, maybe not, but they had a lot of sand to deal with on that beach.

A Wright brothers replica crashes during take-off

By the way, how long will it be, before the Demon Cats are asking, what did Bush know, and when did he know it?

Orville and Wilbur are VASTLY misunderestimated. They are probably two of the best engineers in history. The academics are reluctant to award them credit because they were self-taught.

Man was not intended to fly. That Wright brothers contraption will never get airborne. You Wright brothers should stick to making bicycles.
