"Alamo:The Movie":an open letter to the producers from Walt

Dear producers of "Alamo: The Movie"
I would like to suggest the following:
be accurate but don't confuse movie making with writing text books...Text books are cheaper to print than movies are to make, and no one goes to the movies at $10/seat for a history lesson, they pay to be entertained
When there is controversy side with the legend....you'll never satisfy the 7 historians that will pan the movie anyway, and if you slam Texas heroes your movie will fail and you'll lose the ability to make more expensive movies...
American heroes are larger than life and Americans expect them to be portrayed that way: a politically correct movie might win you a few half positive remarks from the foreign film buffs but you'll pay at home in seats and DVD sales that will NOT HAPPEN
My final suggestion:
I changed the world when I gave it Davy Crockett in 1954-55, and I followed the story as close as necessary......no-one in America after 911 wants some pansy assed butt head from hollywierd telling them Travis didn't draw the line, and Crockett died trying to surrender....make that movie and you'll only need a egg timer to find out how long you'll be making big budget movies in L.A.

and let's hear them guns and cannons explode.....you blew "Pearl Harbor" by making it quiet....this ain't a "chick flick" it a little boy, (of all ages) movie and you better let them know you actually heard a gun go off.

It's going to star Ben Afflack as Davy and J Lo as a female Travis. Bowie's first name will become David and he will be played by the aging rock star to make a postmodern statement.

We saw Open Range last night, and "Alamo" was one of the movies previewed. I wondered aloud to my husband if it would be politically correct.

How was "Open Range"?

Pretty good. It may have been slightly p.c., the free range cattle guy vs. the landowner cattle guy. On the other hand, it was definitely a gun movie, or should I say, "guy" movie -- lol, lots of shooting. I think that's the reason it was R.
Watching it, you'd almost get the idea Kevin Costner might be a conservative.
To: MEG33
Actually, I did like it. And I usually like 'chick movies'.

Thanks.

Battle of Gonzalez.
We are visiting in Austin and just saw the history about this flag and battle. Good stuff. Can't wait to see the movie.

I thought IMHO she did an excellent job. Very understated. I didn't see "The Grifters," but she was good in "Regarding Henry."

Thanks. I'll be seeing it. I get my best book and movie recommendations at FreeRepublic
