So what
caused the overload? Explosion? Sabotage? Plane crash into power station?
That's what I'm talking about. I know the grid is supposed to go down, but what caused it to go down?

Power generating stations aren't made of Legos or Silly Putty. They had an event, which is not uncommon, but perhaps came at a time of peak demand and it caused a cascading effect. Why is it sooooo hard for you to believe that an event like this could just 'happen'?
Bloomberg:
"If you are feeling thirsty, drink water. If you are feeling queasy, go to a fire station, police station, or restaurant. If you are not feeling queasy, talk about it awhile, and then you may begin to feel queasy."
