Oh, PUH-LEEZE!
This is a major event and the government comes out and denies it is terrorism within minutes.
That's fear mongering?
Might as well ban half the people on this thread who are in agreement with me.

When the music's over, turn out the lights.
I know this is a secondary concern, but how long will it take for frozen food to thaw/spoil in all of the restaurants and grocery stores? Will they be legally required to throw it all away? Just curious -- could have a short-term economic impact.

She called in sick today, and you are trapped with Drew Carey's worst nightmare, mimi..... now THAT is a terrorist event!

"Except that there were all of these SAFEGUARDS and REDUNDANCIES built in after 1977 to prevent this from happening again."

So what happened to all these safeguards and contingencies?
They surely don't appear to be working.

Did Bloomy say whether he's asked Pataki to call up the National Guard?

Power generating stations aren't made of Legos or Silly Putty. They had an event, which is not uncommon, but perhaps came at a time of peak demand and it caused a cascading effect. Why is it sooooo hard for you to believe that an event like this could just 'happen'?Many wacko conspiracy theorists WANT bad things to happen. They WANT it to be terrorism. The reasons are varied: They may want "the people" to rise up and take out whoever they see as "the enemy" (like everyone with an Arab last name on planet Earth); they may be hoping to live to see a fundamentalist biblical apocalypse; they may be hoping to see the government collapse so they can start to rebuild "a new America" according to their crackpot dreams ... any number of possible psychological reasons.
But make no mistake, they dream of TEOTWAWKI. They were let down on Y2K, they were let down after 9/11, and now they're desperate for some sign that they'll finally have a legitimate reason to dig in to that $15,000 worth of MREs and ammunition they've stored in their reinforced basements.

On September 11, 2001, all the major news websites were swamped. I was able to follow everything from work by coming here.

"Klaatu Barata Nikto" was my first thought, too.
Didn't Gort run for office in 2000?

After 911, the folks in NYC must be a little rattled by now......

If you don't already have them, it might be wise to get a surge protector for your valuable electrical equipment. For example, I have one for my computer, and another for my TV and stereo equipment. You can buy them pretty cheaply at Walmart, Target, hardware, etc.

Heard reports that over 200,000 plus may be trapped in elevators and subways
Truly terrifying. How horrible for those poor souls!

Yah, well Marshall's my home town, and it appears they're dark, too....
If it's any consolation, the lights are on just fine here in AZ.
