Fans grab a piece of 'History' at Clinton book signing (FREEPERS in the News !!)
The Atlanta Journal ^ | August 12, 2003 | Tom Baxter

Posted on 08/12/2003 8:10:28 AM PDT by tgslTakoma

By the time Delbra Washington of West Palm Beach, Fla., left the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Buckhead on Monday morning, proudly waving two autographed copies of Hillary Clinton's "Living History," the autograph line snaked around the parking lot.

Washington had arrived about 9 the night before to claim her place at the head of the line to see the former first lady and current U.S. senator from New York.

Right behind her were Denise Boesel of Atlanta and her 8-year-old daughter Maya, who lives in Munich, Germany, and is here for a visit with her mother.

"She got through some very difficult times, and I can certainly appreciate that," Boesel said about Clinton.

Store officials didn't give estimates of the size of the crowd, but it did not appear to be as large as those at book-signings in recent years for Secretary of State Colin Powell and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Those events were on weekends, however, and several hundred people were on hand Monday morning. So far, "Living History" has sold 1.2 million copies.

Just as she can inspire her admirers to wait all night to get their book signed, Clinton still provokes enough conservative ire, almost three years after leaving the White House, to get Jim Riticher to put on a devil's costume on a hot day to stand in protest with a sign that read "I Sold My Soul to Hillary."

Boesel and her daughter had camped out in lawn chairs overnight because Clinton was "a great role model" for women.

Most of the people in line gave the same reason for being there. "She embodies the strength and drive that most of the women in my life have shown," said Lou Miller, a pastry chef.

"I admire her for standing by her man and just going forward," said Michelle Woodson Alexander, a hair stylist from San Francisco in town for the Bronner hair show.

Like Washington, who works for an airline, Alexander heard about the signing after she got to Atlanta. But Evonne Fell flew in from Virginia, and Mary Davis drove from Beltsville, Md., just for the signing.

"I left my 'better half' home. He's a Republican," Davis said.

Most of those questioned said they had not skipped ahead to that part of the book that deal's with Clinton's reaction to her husband's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

"I don't care about that," said Sally Smith of Atlanta. The most interesting part of the book, Smith said, was "what they had to go through after they got into office."

Many of those who came to see Clinton said they would vote for her if she ever runs for president. "Most definitely," Washington said. "And I believe she's going to run."

Keenum Thomas, an Atlanta accountant, sported a John Kerry button, but, like nearly all those waiting with their books, he said he would gladly vote for Clinton later on.

But those shouting catcalls at the Hillary fans had a different opinion.

"I'd crawl over broken glass to vote against her," said opponent Riticher, in the devil's costume and part of a group of eight protesters who organized themselves on an Internet conservative news group.

But as he looked across the parking lot at the line, Riticher acknowledged his concern that Clinton, who was also in town for a private fund-raiser, could be a candidate, even as early as next year.

"We want to put out the message that there's a lot of history she doesn't want us to know about," he said.

Clinton arrived for the signing to the cheers of those waiting, stood for pictures from the press -- without taking any questions -- and sat down to the business of signing books.

Toward the end of the signing, she paused to greet Valerie Jackson, widow of the late Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. Former President Bill Clinton had spoken at Jackson's funeral in June.

The two women exchanged a few words, and Clinton asked an aide to arrange a time for an interview on Valerie Jackson's radio show.

>>I wonder if the writer realizes the caricature he's drawn of Hillary! fans.

Whatever could you mean? Pastry chefs, male hairdressers from San Francisco, and women who look up to a woman who "made it" on her husband's coattails, are what makes the world go 'round. < /sarcasm>

It's about time that somebody got a hold of that thesis and releases so that we all can read where she came from and where she is going to lead this country IF she runs for higher office. If the media gives her a pass on her past and we allow it to happen, we deserve what we get.

Thanks Freedom Poster (Jim Riticher) and everyone else for a great FReep. I was riding around yesterday and heard your protest mentioned a number of times on WGST (Rush's station) and WSB (Neal Boortz's station).

BTW, Freedom Poster organized a Cynthia McKinney protest a few years ago, which got good coverage by the local media. This was the beginning of the end for Cynthia, IMHO.

There were a *lot* of folks behind getting rid of Jihad Cyndy. Ultimately, she even pissed off the Emory limousine liberals.

I was glad to do my small part, both with our FReep, and with helping Majette in the primary.

Eventually, from what I understand, she released pieces of it.

So her "fans" would be able to swallow the vomit.

Here is a link to the after-action thread about the ATLANTA FReep:

FReep Report - Hillary Booksigning at the Buckhead (Atlanta) Barnes & Noble
FReepers present at the event | 8/11/2003 | Freedom Poster
Posted on 08/11/2003 2:24 PM PDT by FreedomPoster

The Hillary "Lying History" book signing tour came to town today, and we did our best to make her feel unwelcome and to get the word out that there's a lot of history Hillary would just as soon people not know.

After coming to a late realization that this event was happening, we quickly pulled together a good group of FReepsers for a the Monday 11-1:30 event (a tough time for the working class like us).

Thanks to a media fax blast by Doctor Raoul, I got a 5:30AM call on my cell phone from WSB 750AM, a 50,000W talk radio station in Atlanta, which is also Neal Boortz's home station. Fortunately, the phone was *not* bedside, so I returned the call at a slightly more civilized hour and arranged to be interviewed at 7:50AM this morning. I thought the interview went well; as soon as it was over, my phone was ringing. A client called: "I just heard you on the radio! That was great!" Businesspeople "get" our message.

We started arriving on-site for the FReep at 10AM; I was first. The history of these event is that there has been a "devil" following Hillary to several of these events. The esteemed Doctor Raoul and Ron Dog have led the charge in this department. I humbly followed in their footsteps, and thus we have this:

Yes, that is yours truly [Freedom Poster] under there...

Media folks who interviewed us on-site included:

CBS TV 46
WSB Radio 750 AM
WGST Radio 640 AM
96 Rock 96.1 FM
Z93 92.9 FM

I think if I had Bill Gates levels of wealth . . .

I would hire 300 or so serious teen conservatives and some stout old codgers.

I'd make sure they were interspersed with democrud sychophants at the book signing.

Then I'd have each one ask Shrillery a very embarrassing question such as about her Commie thesis; coffee in the Marine's face; working for the Commies in Chicago; Fosterizing details etc.

It wouldn't matter that she wouldn't answer. She'd be increasingly hopping mad. Perhaps she'd even blow a blood gasket. Others would be educated. She might even cancel--which would be a delightful news story.

Then we could have a well publicized shredding and mulching garden party with the books afterwards.

Ah well, dream on.

As I posted earlier, also from the Atlanta FReep thread:
"...My son held a sign that said ‘HONK IF YOU THINK HILLERY SHOULD NEVER BE PRESIDENT.’ This sign generated a lot of honking from passing cars and supporting cheers from truck drivers who were making their deliveries. He also a got a few fingers from SUV driving, cell phone talking, soccer moms who happened to disagree with our position. My son, who is only 15, learned a valuable lesson from all of this: The peace and love crowd does not love or want to be peaceful with those whom they disagree. Funny, but you can spot these people miles away. Another thing we noticed is that about 65% of all vehicles were driven by someone talking on a cellphone. Among the liberal elite, that number was up around 85%.

About 11:30, a nutcase feminazi was trying to turn into the mall to get her little autograph. As she had to wait in line for traffic to clear, she started shrieking all sorts of things at us. I guess she just couldn’t tolerate dissenting views. So when she started shrieking, we all took up the chant:

MEAN SPIRITED, ARROGANT, CONDESCENDING LIBERAL

…well, this really got her furious. She wanted to dish it out, but couldn’t take the response.

She got so angry that she sped up and almost hit the car in front of her..." - OldCorps

I **love** it when a plan comes together!
Way to go, ATLANTA FReepers!

Ha-ha! I hadn't thought of it till you mentioned it. But in all of the articles on her signings, there's a strain of milquetoast men running around waiting to get their book signed so they can take it home to the one who wears the pants in the family. Good catch!

I hope you're having a good summer!

Thanks to Richiter, and all FReepers who are hounding the Witch on her book tour.

Hard to believe there are a million idiots in this country who shelled out good money for Hillary's "Lying History".

I'm sorry, Raoul...

That was cruel and inhumane, what I just did to you.

Please forgive me.

I won't do anything like that again.

I promise.

God, I hope he didn't gouge his eyes out after seeing that.
