Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby (Update in post #12850)
Myself | 8-11-03 | Brad's Gramma

Posted on 08/11/2003 12:57:30 PM PDT by Brad’s Gramma

If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. He’s the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.

Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2” long.

He’s a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that he’s starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.

I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious…and this is her reply…” A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.”

On a personal note, I’ve read the emails daily from my friend. I’ve known her for years, I’ve heard her talking about her family for years…but I’ve got to tell you that I’m SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.

Father God, we lift up Logan’s little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until he’s grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Fellow Freepers…….I bring you Logan!!!

I know I'm way behind, kind of forgot to check "Logan's Thread" starting about the time Logan got sick.

My sister in law got cancer, renal cell, and passed away about a month after being diagnosed, and less than two months from the onset of any symptoms. She was 47 and left two high school age children. Wife and I drove up to Nebraska for the funeral. Older daughter stayed with her Miss Victoria, and younger daughter stayed with the Great Nieces, although the original plan was for older daughter and Miss V to stay with the nieces and for younger one to also go to the funeral.

He won't eat them unless they have hot sauce :)

What do you expect? He is a Texican after all. And one from San Antonio on top of that. Be amazed if he liked them any other way. Plus there was this "Uncle TC" character in his life....

An Uncle who undoubtedly had some hand in Logan's recovery from this nasty bug or whatever it was.

We are so sorry to hear of the death of your sister-in-law. And for her children..... and all of her family... our prayers will be said for them.

How is Miss V doing? Bet she's setting the world on fire by now. These little ones bring a smile to everyone. They let us know that all will be right with the world. Thank God.

You're right about Logan and TC. TC would be so proud to see the way the little one loves Mexican food and hot sauce. And I mean LOVES it!! He's taking Spanish classes at his school and doing real well with it. He tells his mommy things in Spanish and she calls me to interpret for her! Smart little fella!! :)

He's getting ready to be ring bearer in his Uncle G's wedding and if you could see him in a full tux! It's "termite" size and just too precious for words. The wedding is the 10th of Feb and as soon as pictures are released, I'll ask Aunti N to post a couple. He's growing up so fast. Not a baby any longer. In fact, New Years Eve he came home with me and drove (sitting on my lap) a mile and half down our road and turned into the driveway without help. Now remember everyone, we live in the country!!!....and country kids drive early. There wasn't another car in site for miles. We were safe. Besides, God has always watched over Logan in a special way.

Post a picture of Miss V EG. We'd love to see her.

Love, hugs and prayers......

I am so sorry for your family's loss.
When my sister and I were in high school, our mom died of cancer as well (we were 14 and 16)
It was a very rough road...but we have both tuned out ok (I hope) :-)

Please tell those girls they will be in our thoughts and prayers...

Thank you, and I'm glad to hear you turned out OK. :)

I'm not worried about my niece, she's dealing with it. She'll graduate in May or June, and hopefully with counseling from Professora Tia La Gata (my wife, the teacher education department chair), she'll go on to some kind of post high school education. (Her grades have been only barely OK, and she really messed up her ACT, so the best she can probably hope for is to go to the local community college, even though the state University is closer, it might even be within sight of their back deck. But she's a good hard worker, and will succeed, she just doesn't test well.)

I'm a bit more worried about my nephew. He doesn't show much emotion, so it's hard to tell if he's dealing with things or not. I'll go trap or skeet shooting with him when we go up for his sister's graduation. He'll likely wax my behind, as he did the last time I went shooting with him, but this time I'll take my own shotgun, which makes a big difference, and we'll shoot skeet rather than trap, because he's competitor in trap, and I do a little better at skeet, so at least I might not embarrass myself as I did last summer. He's a lackluster student, smart enough but he never turns in his homework, even when he does it. Uncle Gato needs to have a serious talk with that boy, and I will.

Not a baby any longer.

I've been telling y'all that for a year. He's a young man. A young Texan at that. All boy too.

Miss V is doing fine. She "called" her Grandpa Gato a Gorilla, in sign language. I think grandma put her up to it, she's compared me to one since before Miss V's mother was born. :)

We, including her parents and the great nieces, went to Sea World San Antonio just before New Years. A great time was had by all, Miss V particularly liked the Sea Lion and Dolphin shows. Her abuelo should have worn his coat, because he got a cold and it took about 5 days to recover, more or less. Here's your Miss V pictures. Hot... or maybe cold off the press. The first two were taken 16 Jan '07

Daddy, I can't put my arms down" (As her mother dressed her).

Tough but Cold

Her first haircut, which was a couple of weeks ago.

Oh El Gato...I'm sorry!!!

Thank you. Please keep my baby brother, and his daughter and son in your thoughts and prayers. They need it more than I.

Oh, and my mother too, My sister in law was the daughter she never had, somewhat more so than my wife, due in part to proximity, but also due to my sister-in-law's big heart. My sister-in-law's mother passed away within the last year or so as well. In fact the first symptoms of the cancer were dismissed as fatigue from going to Arizona to help put her mother's affairs in order, clean up her house and so forth.

I see I wasn't very clear. My brother and his wife have a high school senior daughter and a sophomore son. The "daughters" I wrote of are mine. Miss V's mother and Miss V's Aunt B. My younger daughter, her Aunt B., stayed with our great nieces, who are also our wards, Miss V's Mom stayed with her, so just my wife and I went up for the funeral. We drove up through the first major cold front of the season. Although we only hit some sleet and freezing rain, the worst of the snow, about 9", didn't come until we'd passed by northern Oklahoma.

Oh how very precious she is!!!.... although NOT happy at all about the haircut. Poor baby. She wants to have long and luscious locks and no one understands!!! I will show Logan her picture when he comes to visit this weekend (baring any more ICE out here).

I see that there are ice and sleet pictures for her to remember too. Logan didn't get too close to any of it... we've trying to stave off a cold that he's trying to get. But he loved the "white" of the land because of the ice.

Thanks for sharing Miss V's pics and give her a kiss and a hug from an admiring family.....

Poor spoiled baby that is. She is not shy about expressing her displeasure. It's not like she didn't get to watch first Grandma, and then Mommy, get their hair cut first. She's just a grump sometimes, and I know the sign for "grumpy" (and she doesn't like it when I use it. :) )

I see that there are ice and sleet pictures for her to remember too

Oh yes, they are in north Austin and they got plenty of ice and sleet, maybe a little snow.

After I got sent home from work early yesterday, my wife called from far North Texas and told me that they had several dozen robins in the yard, looking for something to eat under the snow/sleet. Then Mort, the dog, wanted out so she let him out. Of course he chased away the birds, but then didn't especially like the stuff coming down on him, so hid under an evergreen tree. When the birds came back he'd pop out and chase them away again, and then return to his nice dry and warmer hideout. This cycle repeated several times before my wife called him back in. Would have loved to have seen it.

""my wife called from far North Texas and told me that they had several dozen robins in the yard,"

Isn't that strange....we had a huge group of male cardinals land out here. Had to have been over 200 in the bunch. They were just beautiful. I've given my big outside dogs so much billy heck about chasing our guineas that they know better than to even look at another bird.

Had to chuckle at the spoiled baby bit. So is Logan. But we always tell everyone that he's just "over loved". Question... why do you sign to her? Did I miss that she has a hearing problem, or are y'all just teaching her to sign? I wish they would teach sign language at Logan's school. He's in Spanish, and for down here, that's certainly a necessity, and music, which he loves.... but it would be nice for the children to know the language of the hearing impaired.

When Logan gets angry (and he does that easily)... he tells his mommy he's going to "Nanee's house"...that's me. When he's here and not happy, he pretends he's calling her to come get him. Think the kid is working both ends??? LOL

Hug your precious little one. Logan is no longer a baby. We prayed so for him to grow and flourish...and he did...every so quickly. Where did "the baby" go???

You have guineas? Woo Hoo, I've got to come see you sometime. I'd want to bring the Great Nieces, I don't think they believe in guineas. (My own Great Uncle Joe kept them as watch birds, his brother Uncle Sam had watch geese instead. I always liked that I had an Uncle Sam, that I only shared with a bunch of cousins)

The girls also didn't believe that my mother hand raised "runt" pigs, keeping them in a box in the bedroom she shared with her sisters. I told them about that after we saw "Charlotte's Web". When I told my Mom about their disbelief, she said "Well I did", and then told me a piece of the story I hadn't heard before. She is the youngest sister, and she said that when her oldest sister was dating her future husband, the sister would often come in late, and Mom would have *her* warm the bottle and feed the little bugger. Mom raised several runts in her preteen and young teen years. (When she went to high school, which she finished at 16, she lived with her grandparents who lived in town near the school. Her grandfather "Fred", actually Hiram Fredrick, was in the first generation of her mother's family born in the US, his parents having come from Southern Germany in the 1860s. )

No she hears just fine. It's kind of a new age yuppie thing, all the parents are teaching the kids to sign. She loves the PBS show "Signing Time". The theory is that kids are ready for language before they are really ready for speach. My wife and I think it may have retarded her speaking, but not too much. She also has no need to speak, as her father says, "She gets what she wants without speaking", but she's recently been saying a few words. "Eat", "Dirty", and once in a great while "Grandpa". The cutest thing she did, and has done it on multiple occasions, is to make the sign for "More" and then the sound "t", when she sees "Mort" the dog. That includes a couple of weeks ago. Wife, and the girls, had dental appointments in San Antonio. Actually the wife had two, one a checkup, the other to put in some implants, which will be crowned later. We stopped in Austin at their house, but she and her mother were still sleeping. We left Mort in a travel cage in their family room. So when she woke up, there he was. She apparently liked the surprise, she and Mort get along, even though later when they were playing outside, he accidentally knocked her down.
