CA: Desert Cop Killer, Units Converging
local area tactical scanner | August 8, 2003

Posted on 08/08/2003 10:46:55 AM PDT by lainie

ATTENTION

Big doins right now on high desert ATAC. They're surrounding a house in the vicinity of 200 ST E and AVE R.

"be advised we've got no cover and are sitting ducks if he's scoping us.."

"we need more units!"

They're surprising the location.

Sounds like they might think they got him, getting SB involved.

Air ship on scene.

Perp tells the cops that he's 1000 yards away from the loc, watching them all from the sides.

Heard that. Holy shit. CHUTZPAH ALERT

You ain't kidding. But now it is close to dark, and if he is out there, he could win this one like he did on Saturday night!

With all due respect, these cops don't sound very organized. They just confirmed that they didn't secure all the outbuildings on the property. The bad guy could be anywhere.

Ham radios can be easily modified to transmit on the cop bands. Frequencies are published in hobby magazines. It doesn't take much digging to find the correct CTCSS tones.

Hmmmmmmmmm........

Maybe they should have released the hounds like I suggested.

If this guy gets away then this is the Keystone Kops all over again.

Yeah but he was on the compound at 10:30 and they've been there ever since. There's no way he's going to escape, I just can't see it.

talking FLIR to the bird.

Yeah, but it's 97F, and there is not enough temp difference between the ground and the perp.

This sucks for the cops but geez, why didn't they make their move before, sweeping and securing one small area at a time?

I guess that's easy for me to say.

That'll be plenty of thermal contrast. Wonder how fast the ground gives up the day's heat?

Oh man, that would KILL your collimation!! LOL!

Collimation is the adustment of the alignement of each optical element of a telescope with regard to the others. Optical books present us, for every type of telescope, conception principles and theoretical performances that implicitly suppose that this alignment is perfectly realized. And even if these books do not talk much about the damages caused by an misalignment, one must know that the performances of a reflector collapse if its optics are misaligned. And that no telescope, even if it has been adjusted in the factory, keeps its alignement a very long time...

The collimation is a drastic way of improving the performances of a telescope in a considerable amount. Often, the instrument is metamorphosed. No high resolution result can be hoped without a irreproachable collimation, since image processing is incapable of compensating for the damages caused by a misalignment. Collimation is not a superfluous technique destined for opticians and purists. It is as important as the tuning of a musical instrument: the images given by a misaligned telescope can be as awful as the sound given by a out-of-tune piano. It is the best interest of an amateur who would not want to collimate his reflector to turn to a refractor of moderate size. Productivity attraction, specially in CCD, must not hide the fact that in high resolution quality is more important than quantity.

This is all that I know about collimation. Note, this is personal knowledge as I do not know how to do a Google Search

;<)

Very fast. I always did my inline skating just before sunset. It goes from too warm to chilly in a about 15 minutes. That was 10 miles inland from the ocean.
