I too am a member and past church council president of an ELCA church. I am beginning to look at other denominations. I fear the vote of the ELCA in 2005 on these issues. I expect the ELCA to join the US Anglican church on the road away from God.

EdReform, great links, thank you! And I started Miss Marple's thread, it makes a lot of sense. I hadn't really thought about how much money a mainline denomination would have access to.

BlackElk, the whole push in the UN and EU to pass and/or strengthen "hate speech" laws terrifies me. I truly believe it's a legal rationale to start being able to persecute and jail those who remain faithful to Jesus' teaching. How horrifying for faithful Episcopals to watch Robinson -- after ripping their denomination apart and breaking their hearts -- brag to the UN (of all groups) about how enlightened their church is for facilitating his abominable sin!

"I hope that in our deliberations we will find that there are ways forward in this situation which can preserve our respect for one another and for the bonds that unite us," Williams said in a statement issued by his office.

Sounds like a cop-out plan. I mean, what's more important - sciptural truth or the buildings, financial reserves, retirement plans, etc? Any Episcopalians that don't split the scene, one way or another, are tainted by the stain. Gotta stand up against evil or you join its ranks.

"Why are the homosexuals so obsessed with taking over churches? That's the part I don't understand. What is it about Christian churches that compels the gays to come in and force their degradation on everyone else?"

Homos are obsessed with attacking God, the true God, and destroying churches is the best way. It IS Satanic. These homos are not believers, they are not Christians(look at their fruits), they are of their father, the devil, who is a lier and murderer.

Humans have forgotten about an entity named Satan.

Liberal (Satanic)Churches don't speak his name anymore. People are led to believe he doesn't exist. It's gives him free reign to do as he wills, because of their ignorance of him.

The Episcopal Church has allowed itself to be a "door mat" in the overall scheme of the homosexual community. It was reported many years ago that the ultimate goal of the homosexual planners in America was to have their lifestyle legislated by our Congress in Washington.

Have you read "Reprobate Theology" by Scott Lively? He explains with references how the homosexual activists planned the takeover of churches and synagogues. (It's available from www.abidingtruth.com). A short, informative booklet that everyone intersted in this subject should read.

See what I just posted at the end of this thread (sorry I don't have the number, I'm not computer savvy.)

Besides the properties, many churches have foundations and various funds donated by members or left by wills.

I don't know about every Diocese, but the N. California one really owns everything if it comes down to push or shove.

The church in Redding had a falling out a few years ago with the bishop. They found out that the property, buildings and other assets paid for by the church members belonged to the Diocese not them.

Also, most of the Bishops can tell their churches what their Diocesian assessment is re contributions. We send to the Diocese over 34% of what we bring in each month after factoring out the priests salaries and benefits and any major maintenance repair.

As conservative members stop tithing or cut their donations in protest of this outrage, those assessment rates will go up.

So money is part of the Gay quest. Also, they want the power, the prestige, the bully pulpit to say that their lifestyle is normal and wonderful. Last, but not least the pay is great for a few hours a week.

Gossipol according to the "Episcopal Church USA" ..

1)Thy shall allow openly-practicing gay Bishops.
2) Thy shall Bless and approve the Same Sex-unions of thy people.
3) Thy shall choose and pick what thy like in the " bible" according to thy needs or wants of thy people.

We may have to from an E club here to help sort out the issues.

E Club sounds good with all the bad news coming out of Minneapolis this week.

My Mom said she hasn't felt this much despair since she got word about Kesserine Pass in WWII where my Dad was involved.

With a vested interest in how the parish priests handle this in their Sunday homilies, should we start a "What happened in your parish yesterday" thread come Monday morning?

BTW - Does anyone know what the readings and the Psalm are for this Sunday?

I have asked by trad_anglican to start a thread for Episcopalians in the religion section of Free Republic.

I've sent a note to the FR webmaster to make sure they would be ok with such a thread. It's not the usual kind of thing that FR is set up for, and I don't think they'll have a problem with it, but I thought it would be good to ask nonetheless.

I think to keep everything in one place, someone will have to start and E thread on FR's religion section/page.

That will enable us to keep track of what has happened, is happening and to have a reference place for sites and other resources.

However that is an excellent suggestion. That way we can see what is happening across the country.

Thanks.

There shouldn't be any problem.

In a week or so this will be off the news cycle. So we would have a thread to keep what is happening and a place for us to meet and discuss things.

Ping us when you start a thread.
