[history]
Nine months ago, 3.5 million Californians voted in a fair election to reelect Governor Davis. I believe he should be given the opportunity to finish his term.
Instead, most of the statement describes her problems with the recall process, and the fact that she believes many of the candidates running will have little or no knowledge of the problems facing the state.

That was fast. Just heard it on Fox a couple minutes ago.
She was either afraid she wouldn't win, or was afraid she would.
How's that for covering the bases?

My source was probably FNC's source.

Her departure will probably lead top Democrats to turn next to Leon Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff under Clinton. If he doesn't run, this could open the floodgates for second-tier Dems to jump in
Leon Panetta is considered a top-tier Democrat?!?!

She would not want to give Governor this way.
She would walk into a horrendous fiscal crisis. She have to appoint her successor to the Senate who would be up for election along with Boxer next year.
It would not be pretty.

It's also interesting because Dem polls show no Dem, but Dianne, winning the recall election-- not Boxer or Panetta or Mayor Willie or Mayor Moonbeam or Loretta Sanchez or any current Dem serving in Sacramento.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Why the hell should she even consider the job when she's set up in DC.
The next Governor is NOT going to solve the fiscal crisis in California.
To: GraniteStateConservative
I was really concerned about her (yeah right)

"candidates running will have little or no knowledge of the problems facing the state." Gee, I'm touched. That is so beautiful. Of course, I wonder if any of these lizards can understand the problems facing the motorists who just had their vehicle license fees tripled. But when did the people matter to people like Feinstein anyway? It's the State that matters to the RATS.
To: GraniteStateConservative
I think the RATS will fight the process rather than contest the election. What they will do when it's all over is attack the new Governor in the same manner that they assault Bush: As a "usurper".
And, yeah, like many have warned, they will attempt to pin all of California's governing woes on the new Governor, conveniently forgetting the man who "brought 'em".
But still, it's worth it for the GOP and for Californians. Like all three west coast states, California is very far gone done the road of ultra-ultra leftism. There's no easy to wrest control of a major office like this from the RATS out here. You take it how you can, when you can. And if you are sitting there when fate turns things around -- you could cement your party's power for a good long time.
I know of no other way out here on the west coast, where solid MAJORITIES in Cal. Ore. and Wash. are way, way out on the left edge.

Was there any hint or indication that she would even consider running?

"Was there any hint or indication that she would even consider running?"Not really. She started with the "no intent" thing after her name was raised by other Rats. The presstitutes thereafter harped on her "most popular" status, keeping the door open. I'm glad it is closed. We are in for quite a show....

For those of you who have not heard, the AFL-CIO has laid down the law that any "d" who runs can kiss any support from organized labor good-bye in the future. They want the Dimwit Davis to win and they don't want the Dimwit party hedging their bets by running a candidate in the second part of the ballot. Interesting to see if bimbo Sanchez(she dropped her married name to pander to the Hispanics in her election) runs. DUMP DAVIS! VOTE 4 MCCLINTOCK!

Usually, those elected officials with little "empires" and social standing in D.C. have no desire to come back home and face the problems and troubles on the ground. Life is too easy for them back there.
We have one like that in Washington, Jennifer Dunn (who's district is going further and further left, so she's marrying a big-time wealthy lobbyist she's known for years, leaving Congress, and staying in D.C.)

GOP uncertainty in recall may clear today ---
Arnold Schwarzenegger says he'll announce on Leno

LOS ANGELES Potential candidates in California's Oct. 7 recall election are eyeing one another nervously, waiting for someone to break the tension over who will run to succeed Democratic Gov. Gray Davis if voters oust him. With Saturday's deadline to file for a spot on the ballot approaching fast, "this reminds me of the scene in Gunfight at the OK Corral right before the first shot is fired," Republican campaign consultant Dan Schnur says. "As soon as the first one draws, there'll be bullets flying in every direction."
Some of the uncertainty among Republicans may clear today. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he'll announce his much-awaited decision on whether to run during an appearance on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Aides to the film star say they'll issue a statement before the show's taping at 4:30 p.m. local time...

Dianne Feinstein says emphatically that she will not run for governor in the recall election, which she condemns as a frivolous carnival likely to have "dark repercussions." Her statement isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of Davis, with only one mention of the governor by name and no praise for the job he's done in office:
Nine months ago, 3.5 million Californians voted in a fair election to reelect Governor Davis. I believe he should be given the opportunity to finish his term.
Instead, most of the statement describes her problems with the recall process, and the fact that she believes many of the candidates running will have little or no knowledge of the problems facing the state.
Yes Democracy in action is a b*tch for the Democrats isn't it? Hey, Dummy, if you don't like the law change it!
But really, why would Feinstein give up a Senate seat with all its perqs for a shot at governor, by no means a sure win? When is she up for the Senate again and are there any serious challengers on the horizon?
