There have been numerous attacks on Americans in British Columbia in the passed couple of months; some very serious. I do believe that's about as west as you can get.

Previously we had not been aware of Canada's nad behavior, but we're paying attention now and we're not inclined to keep tolerating being knifed in the back. I grew up in Michigan, and have a great deal of family that lives in Canada. I have spent quite a bit of time in Ontario.
The subtle American animosity has always been prevalent in my mind. Many Americans are too busy being "American tourists" to pick up on it, though. It is similar to the disdain for Americans in Europe, that has been prevalent for a long time.
I believe since September 11th, a large portion of America has realized that Canada is not in lock-step with us.
But one should always distinguish Eastern Canada from Western Canada, the culture is really different.

Trust me... it the whole anti-American attitude of the socialists in Canada pisses me off probably just as much as it does you. Most of the farmers too who depend on trade with the United States are probably JUST AS upset over the situation.
Canada should be a useful ally of the United States. We can serve as third party NATO allies, constant members of the "coalition of the willing". Our Halifax class frigates have often been available to escort US Carrier Battle Groups.
Not only that but free trade is good for the US, it's good for Canada and it's good for the world.
Don't give up on Canada... we are fighting to help turn the tide against the socialists!!

You're wasting your breath arguing with the Canada-bashers here. Most of them had a hate-on for us even before any of this stuff happened, mostly because we aren't exactly like them.

I understand the dead cat and anti-Americanism bits, but you had better translate the rest of that statement, it didn't compute. To "cock a snook" is to thumb one's nose at someone while waggling the fingers.
It's a favored phrase of Mark Steyn.

We don't give a rat's rump what you're like as long as you mind your own business don't rag on us for stuff which don't concern you.
Canadians have a bad habit of minding everybody's business except your own.

Not true, the converse had been my experience--you have such a lovely country too

Most canadians despise America (not all). Many suffer from an inferiority complex and their way of coming to terms with it is trying to lower America in their mind.

I just got back from Canada (French Canada [Trois-Rivieres, Quebec], no less), and I am not the least bit mad at Canadians (although I hate their politicians as much as you do). Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful - even the ones who didn't speak English did their level best to help me with whatever I needed.
Canadians are GOOD people. The way I see it, they elected some seriously messed up people. But so did we. And we shouldn't hate Canadians in general just because we hate their government.
Now the French, on the other hand ...

Well... it could be worse.. could be in France.
Still, Canadians should both expect and deserve better.
We allow the socialist minded politicians to run all over us with divided opposition parties and a fear of actual policy development.
Finally however there is mobilization.

Oh, it could definitely get worse than what I just enjoyed!
Trois-Rivieres is the grooviest city I have ever visited - I was there for work, but it was almost like a vacation. The people were so friendly, and the food was the best I've EVER had. They have a very pretty church, too.
In just four days, I got very good at communicating with people who had no idea what I was saying.
Now, on to Toronto!

Oh, we have a great country... too bad we've abandoned common sense and let the socialists take control.
Basically what happened in Canada is that our one political party representing the "Conservative" lense fractured into multiple groups... some going over to support the psuedo-Liberal Paul Martin (who is just as bad as Chretien), some forming the Reform party and later the Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance and others staying in the PC Party.
Enter in socialist fringe groups like David Orchards anti-free trade, anti globalization protestors and you have a recipe for disaster... allowing the socialist Liberals to win time and time again.

Same thing may be happening here. Our strict-constructionist-type conservatives (of which I am one) are not exactly thrilled with our free-spending president. Some of the cracks in the Republican front may be starting to deepen. I personally think that it's in part because the Republicans are in power - we don't have to unite to defeat a common enemy. Idle hands, and all that.
You do have a lovely country. I have been to Toronto and the Bowmanville/Oshawa area previously, and when I got back from there I kept telling everybody how wonderful Canada was. Trois-Rivieres just blew me away, though. I want to take a real vacation there sometime soon.
