It's a parent's job to parent. It's an individual's job to use the clicker to protect themselves from being offended.

It is not the job of a bunch of unelected jack booted bureaucrats.

Must be another FReeper without children. As I've said here before, you really don't know anything about life and world until you have kids, imo. I didn't always think that way. It wasn't until I had offspring to protect that I did. Flame away!

While I agree in principle, I also know that what is allowed to go out over the airwaves, what gets shown in movie theatres, what gets put into kids' video games impacts our society as a whole.

And please don't try to deny that it does. Look around you.

The indecency has gone way beyond the control of parents. Now adays, it is virtually impossible to keep a young child from being exposed to vile ideas. The decadence has flooded into the schools and the marketing of these ideas has become too invasive--even bringing a child to the grocery store has consequences. Parents are forced to explain things which are destructive to the innocence of childhood....reminds me of the "childhoods" from the dark ages where children were exposed to all sorts of crude and ugly behavior at very young ages.
