I'm not just a whiney techie now either. This is the second time this has happened to me. I majored in textile management in college and when all the textile manufacturing went overseas I got out and got trained in programming. Now all the outsourcing and I'm threatened again. I haven't lost my job yet but everybody in our shop is very uneasy which creates a crappy work environment. I'm getting sick of changing careers folks.

I was laid off in Oct. '00 from my tech job, along with about 150 others. The work went to India. Now I'm fifty, and haven't found permanent employment since then. Seem's I'm overqualified for what's available, and the industry I was in is virtually dead. A recent newspaper story in my area said that over 250,000 (mostly ) tech jobs were lost in the SF bay area in the last year.

If Bush doesn't get on this soon, he's gone in '04, and the demorat solution will only make it worse, like FDR did in '32.
