(Santa Fe-AP) -- Governor Richardsons administration is being criticized for assigning state police to provide security for Texas Democratic legislators who are in New Mexico.
Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White says its inappropriate to ask the citizens of New Mexico to pick up the tab for a political battle.
Eleven Democratic senators came to Albuquerque Monday to block the Texas Senate from considering a Republican-backed effort to redraw Texas congressional districts.
White, a Republican, asked Richardson to return state police to their normal duties.
Richardson says he must provide security for high-profile guests and political figures.
Richardson says there was no additional cost to New Mexico taxpayers because the state police were not working overtime.
