I don't get it. The map shows that the Valley of the Mariners has almost no water. The giant Hellas Impact Basin is dry, Isidris is dry. The smooth flatlands are dry and the heavily cratered regions which look to me like 'highlands' have the most water.
Any ideas?

What if it's hydrogen not indicative of water but of Nazi dirigibles? Take a look around. No Nazi drigibles here, could be they were all transferred to Mars. We better send Hoagland and van Flandern up to Mars to check it out. Caution, send in separate vehicles if the odds of arriving in functional condition are needed to be more than infinitesimal.

The title of the article is technically incorrect. It should read:
Los Alamos releases new maps of Mars Hydrogen (which we really really really hope is in the form of H2O)

Those propellor-heads ought to find some water for New Mexico, we're about to burst into flames here.

I'm all for space research..
But shouldn't Los Alamos be back in the business of making new and better nuclear warheads?

"Breathtaking" new maps of likely sites of water on Mars showcase their association with geologic features such as Vallis Marineris, the largest canyon in the solar system."Breathtaking," my ass. Try "taxtaking." NASA is trying desperately to spin out of (very) thin air justification for the continued existence of its never-ending Mars saga.
With a few more squadrillion tax dollars, we may -- may -- determine whether trace amounts of water formerly or currently exist on Mars. And -- then? Other than using this information as justification for spending a few more squadrillion dollars, of what real value is this information?

Magnified images of a curious speck on the water revealed this:
