science has accepted the fact that continents can move. And I have to confess that I am a pole-shift theory advocate, because all of the evidence points towards something that modern science can't explainWouldn't drifting continents and shifting poles appear similar? IE, the position of the poles with respect to the continents changes.

The astronomical pole would stay the same, if you watched all night, the sky would still revolve around the north star, Polaris. Barring there were no tilts in the obliqueness of the axial tilt of the Earth. But he pole star would change in elevation above the horizon.

I never met him, but I've met enough of his clones to hate him sight unseen.

I have no mechanism for an expanding earth. Doesn't mean it's not true (Although I'm VERY skeptical). Proposing a mechanism too early was Wegener's error:
"In his reconstruction of Pangaea, not only did the shapes of the pieces fit together, but any number of geological features--ancient glacial deposits, for example--also fit together. It was like matching the picture on a jigsaw puzzle. But most geologists either ignored or ridiculed Wegener and his continental drift. The most valid reason for ignoring him was that Wegener's driving mechanism just had to be wrong--he pictured the drifting continents plowing through the deep solid Earth like ships through the ocean, and geologists rightly refused to believe that this was physically possible" - Walter Alvarez, T.rex and the Crater of Doom.

Must be trying to make brownie points with his female friend. This was uncalled for.

Sorry to take so long to reply. It has been a bit busy around here. I can't find the specific reference that I was thinking of (it has been some time since I read it). However, there is one phoenomenon which really gives Arp's theory fits, and that is the phoenomenon of the Lyman Alpha forest. It is probably referenced in the link that RA gave you, but the gist of the phoenomenon is that the continuum radiation emitted by the quasar is being blocked by clouds of primordial hydrogen along the line of sight. This is evident by the spectral lines of Hydrogen redshifted appropriately for each cloud along the line of sight. In cases where galaxies are near the line of sight, the clouds can be verified to be at the same redshift as the nearby galaxy. It is tough to account for such data in Arp's model, unfortunately.
