Hagel was a combat vet who stated his opposition to this war with humility and respectfully (two characteristics alien to the likes of Frum). I think that experience gives folks a perspective that should be respected....not necessarily agreed with, but respected.

You really think a self-serving twerp like Frum has the right to challenge his patriotism?....Please explain how.

Hagel is always polite -- will give him that. I just don't like his ideas and his approach -- so what does being a veteran have to do with that? Absolutely nothing!

You might as well say that those of us who never served have no right to an opinion on the War on Terrorism or War to remove Saddam!

You have mixed up apples and oranges with your convuluted reasoning -- I don't appreciate Hagel's voting record, his attacks on the President (even if polite), and his stand against our involvement in Iraq. Personally I think he is probably a nice guy as that is the way he comes across.

But that doesn't mean I have to agree with him because he served in Vietnam. Kerry served in Vietnam as well and I have zero, zip, nada respect for him.
