I'm going to admit that I've had a feeling some conservatives have just as strong an impulse to control things as Hillary Clinton does - and I have the same opinion their control freak attitude that I have about Hillary's: I don't like it.I am just beginning to get through this thread, but I couldn't agree with you more. I find it discouraging but true.

They use tugboats. A little bigger than a lifeboat. And pilots who know the harbor. In any case, it's the small boats that direct the big one.

Again, my key question is what exactly gives Frum the right to challenge Hagel's patriotism?...thanks.

I think you got the point....
There are people who think it's easy to just check out of the system if they're displeased at what's going on, and it just ain't so.

Quitcherbitchin...posts like this are good info and are of the kind that need to be reposted once in awhile. Good grief...March? Give me a break (or is it brake now?)!

An army first has to take the beach before it can liberate the continent.Well, as a graduate of Amphibious Warfare School, permit me to point out that the objective of a landing is to defeat the enemy's battle plan - not co-opt it. With the exception of taxes and the war, when the hell is the GOP going to stop calling in fire on our own positions? I know the usefulness of "Danger Close" but three years of Democrat-lite is getting ridiculous.

I could say something about Hagel's support of the McCainiac, but that wouldn't be sporting of me.

The biggest issue that has enraged people is the Administration's Medicare reform proposal, so I'll raise this as an example of Bush's "selling out".
In looking at the President's stated goals (which have been public since 2001), his reforms appear to be on the side of granting greater individual choice for beneficiaries (a conservative principle, I think), and a leaning toward marketplace solutions (coverages similar to what one finds in the marketplace). The Administration's proposals for Medicare will cost more, this is true. But the structure of Medicare produced by the reforms will set the system up for greater reforms, and more reliance upon free market solutions, than the current system we have. Unless one favors the outright repeal of Medicare, I don't know how this calls in fire on our positions.

Fact is, McCain received a disproportionate amount of support from the neo-cons, including Bill Kristol.
To: PhiKapMom
BTW, who is working up the platform for the National Republican Convention next year? You, know, the document that gets rubber-stamped and then ignored by everyone excepting the carping fault-finders from opposition parties?

If you don't secure our borders, it is impossible to defend us from terrorism. Until the borders are secure and all illegals are thrown out we are setting ourselves up for another 9-11.

I'm a big fan of the first ammendment and last time I checked, Sen Hagel was also free to utilize it. It seems Mr. Frum is the one who is uncomfortable and threatened by it.

If you are a patriotic American who believes in God, Country, duty, honor, family, etc, and believe that we have a God-given right to exist as a free nation, and that right includes the right and DUTY to defend ourselves from attack by foreign powers and that as Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush is doing one hell of a great job in executing the duties of his office and that the liberal Democrats would only roll over for the terrorists if they were in power, and that the only way to ever regain our constitutional government or to re-secure our Liberty is to totally reject the evils of liberalism/socialism/marxism and to do as much as possible to block them from holding office and to do all in our power to cause a complete turnover, ie, eliminate as many liberals/abobortionists/homosexualists/traitors, etc, as possible from the elected government and from the judiciary ---then you are a FReeperI think that is the best desciption I have seen in a long time of true AMERICANS. From what I have seen in my brief tenure on this board, a lot of FREEPERS represent the best bottom line movement of American ideals presented in quite a long time.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking. ;-)

I didn't miss it the first time ....but it was good to read again. And thus far, the discussion has been MUCH more civil than last time, IIRC.
