Lynch Receives Bronze Star Before Homecoming

Pfc. Jessica Lynch is returning home Tuesday, newly decorated for heroism in Iraq.

A member of Ft. Bliss' 507th Maintenance Company, Lynch was captured during the attack on a portion of the unit in Nasiriyah, Iraq on March 23rd. She was rescued from captivity on April 1st.

On Monday, Pfc. Lynch received the Bronze Star for heroism, Purple Heart for being wounded in combat, and P.O.W. Medal at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she has been treated for more than three months. KFOX will have a full report on Private Lynch's homecoming Tuesday night on KFOX News at Nine.

LIAR

You're the ONLY person on this thread saying she didn't earn it and you've not been able to provide one single drop of proof. Others have shown both the rules established for the award and the standard of interpretation historically used to hand out the award.

You are sad, you are pointlessly bitter, you are dumb, and now you've added being a pathetic liar to your list of negative traits. Why do you persist in embarassing yourself and FR with this thread? Fade away into the night where you belong.

How about the others who received the same medal in her unit?

It's now been established in this thread by multiple people who honorably served that she had not earned the medal.

Why because you say so? I say it has been established that the Army was correct in awarding the medal where they saw fit. You have no objective criteria for judging yourself. You have never received the award. You were not there.

You are also saying that everybody else in her unit's awards are questionable as well? Please respond to this.

At this hour, the thread is too long to read to check for duplicates; all I'll add is that in my Viet-era period, the Army gave out Bronze Stars to a high percentage of troops that got into combat. My Marine Corps held to the higher standard, wherein being a recipient remained quite special indeed.

I saw maybe three or four USMC valor recipients (walked a mile, literally, to see a high school pal who'd been awarded the Silver Star). I'd like to see some stats, ratio-wise, on these awards.

I honestly don't know. Let's line them up and ask them, "Which one of you is Spartacus?"

:^) It was in the report posted here a few days ago. I'll look for it.

The "V" for "Valor" was introducted to distinquish an award received for direct personal action involved in combat as opposed to the same award given for actions while simply in a combat zone.

For instance, someone in a group driving regular convoys through areas where they are frequently sniped at might be awarded a Bronze Star for their actions in a combat zone. If the same person became engaged in a direct firefight of significant intensity that their action during that engagement was valorous, they would be given the "V for Valor" to distinquish their specific action in that engagement.

Another example would be one of the services "Commendation Medals". The criteria for it is very specific but it can be awarded for non-operational actions that reach the specific level of merit. The Commendation Medal can also be awarded with an "O" for operational distinquishing reasons...in other words, in the actual performance of operational duties.

The criteria for "devices" (of which there are many) are very specific and would be justified in this case. Some people are just angry because this brave soldier earned more then they ever did.

I think Destro has left the building.

No, he's currently bashing Jessica on another thread he started.

The dude seems to be having some serious issues over this.

I should say, just to remove any doubt, that she deserves the medal, not the nasty stuff that life has dealt her. Nobody deserves that.

Honorable service while suffering imprisonment by enemy forces is almost always recognized by an award of the Bronze Star or a higher award.

again...the key words - Honorable service -

What service did she render? It sounds harsh to ask, but words have meaning. What was her "honorable service"?

Also it's been established by multiple people on this thread that each service has its own standards for the Bronze Star and the Marines have the toughest set. I'll agree that were she a Marine she wouldn't have earned it, but she's not, she's in the Army, lower standards.

She earned it.
And you never possibly could.
Get over it terrorist boy.

Not necessarily lower in this case, but probably different.
