CNN is reporting that it is on fire and they are trying to run down confirmation of that.

Sacre bleu!

This could potentially be very bad. On any given day there are hundreds of people in the restaurant or touring the top of the tower.
The tower itself will survive, but there could be a lot of deaths or injuries of tourists up there.

Isn't it made of iron? What's burning on it? Maybe they coated it with garlic butter.

Jules Verne is on the first level of the tower. Haven't see the photos yet, but if smoke is coming from the top, then it's not the restaurant.

Just showed up on the AP WirePARIS - One of the top floors of the Eiffel Tower was on fire Tuesday, officials said. Smoke could be seen rising from the famous Paris monument.
Officials said they were not sure whether anyone was on the top level, where the fire appeared to have erupted.
The company that operates the Eiffel Tower confirmed the fire but gave no details as to its origin and had no information about whether anyone may have been injured in the blaze, which appeared to be limited to a top floor of the monument.
The 324-meter (1,069-feet) iron-laced tower draws 6 million visitors a year, making it the world's most popular paying tourist attraction.
The tower was built by Gustav Eiffel for the 1889 World's Fair.

MSNBC just had some live footage. It doesn't look like much of a fire.

Last week there was a fire at the St. Louis Arch. A pattern perhaps?

Speculation -- Islamist attack? If so, would have had more impact if timed to coincide with Tour de France finale on Sunday.
