Cain Is Able By Kate O'Beirne

A candidate recently kicked off his very first race for public office — and within days, conservatives were buzzing about his potential as a vice-presidential nominee. Novice candidates don't typically generate such ambitious speculation, but Herman Cain, 57, is not the typical Republican candidate. The latest addition to Georgia's GOP primary field for the U.S. Senate is a descendant of slaves and sharecroppers who has returned home to Atlanta, in the hope of being sent to Washington, after a successful career as an entrepreneur, national business leader, and motivational speaker. While conservatives delight at the prospect of a black senator on the national stage skillfully making the case for fundamental conservative reform, liberals face a different prospect: One newspaper declared that the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza "may be the national Democratic Party's worst nightmare."

Let's hear it for 57 year-old Herman Cain. Friends, we may have a real winner here, a Republican businessman and a black man running for the Senate from Georgia. Cain certainly strayed off the Democratic plantation; he's a very successful self-made conservative. Jesse Jackson look out, Cain is the real role model.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Thanks for the ping. Herman Cain is one the leading proponents of moving towards a consumption tax. I truly hope he wins the primary. Herman Cain is someone who, like Clarence Thomas, J.C. Watts, Condy Rice and Colin Powell, trancends the quota mentality of the liberal establishment. He is qualified to be Senator regardless of what his skin color is. I wholeheartedly endorse him.

Sounds great to me.

I am kind of hoping for a Herman Cain vs. Thurbert Baker (or Shirley Franklin) matchup. The Sunday Morning Talk Shows wouldn't stop talking about such a Senate contest until election day. The news pundits would discuss which candidate best represents the African-American community. In fact, the Senate race just might inspire a much needed national dialogue on race.

Oh, if that happened you could bet the media would be implying (if not downright coming out and saying) that Cain has "forgotten his roots," is "trying to act white," is a turncoat, etc etc etc.

Excuse me, but isn't it racist to go running after every black Republican and trying to make them into the "The Great Black Hope" of the party? I want to know everything about a candidate regarding perhaps a score of critical issues. That can't be accomplished in an instant.

Right on, "Cain for Senate." Liberalism gets to Georgia, gets converted into Conservatism and spreads out over the nation. The walls of the Democratic Plantation are falling and the Cause of Freedom is moving up into the hearts of everyone.

Excellent idea, but 20 of them? My list only has about five.
