Do you consider everyone who expects a punishment from God to be a nut like you think me to be? Even God said he would withhold punishment from the Sodom & Gomorrah if He could find just a few righteous men.
As the original poster tried to point out to you, there are many, MANY good and decent people...and yes, committed Christians in this country.....but you refused to acknowledge this and only spoke about how evil and dark America is.
And I didn't call you a nut. I said you were cynical.
Jorge "It's ironic that with your cynical and pessimistic outlook you presume to be so much better than everybody in this country you feel qualified to condemn as evil and dark."
There you go again with this wild defensiveness. Of course I think my behavior is better than pornographers and abortionists. Did I say I am superior to you or anything you do?
Where did I ever suggest that any of this was about me?
I never presumed you knew anything about my life, let alone that you were condemning it.
Back to reality; You made a blanket statement about evil and darkness taking over this country.
So unless you think everybody in this country is on the level of "pornographers and abortionists" I don't see where you should feel qualified to make these kinds of broad-brush condemnations of this nation.
Sure there is evil in this country. But I also believe there is more good that comes from this country than any other nation on earth.

Go back and read MY post again. I said this is the best country.
I'm sorry. I must have missed that post.
You won't get any argument out of me on this.

I happen to believe that Christ did NOT die in vain....I don't try to second guess God. Don't bother to respond to this, I won't be answering you.
Sorry, I have to respond because it is such a bizarre post.
Your implication that I fail to believe Christ did NOT die in vain and that I "second guess" God says something not very nice about you.

I cann't judge these guys heart, it's not my job. Is GOD happy with what we've done to this great country, absolutely not. Yeah, I guess it was inappropriate if I have seemed to judge their hearts. And some will repent.
Thanks for the rest of your message.

Outliers rule the day, always have...if you don't watch them very closely they will seduce you and finally consume you completely. Never be surprised when the extreme elements drag an entire culture in one direction or another.

Tom DeLay's Bible-toting state of Texas has a murder rate triple that of Massachusetts, which is "ungodly" enough to have elected two openly gay members of Congress. Interesting. Are you suggesting that the Bible increases the murder rate?

I can't believe it, another a$$hole writing an article about what a terrible place America is...and the sheeple braying in agreement.
If that author's last name had been Gomez, this whole bunch would have been rudely suggesting that she should go live elsewhere.
Well, if they won't I will.
"Hey Krawiec!"
"If you don't like it here, go find yourself a better place to live!"

So a broke person is going to somehow become "moral" as a result? By calamity/hardship/fear I am talking about something of 9-11 proportions, not going broke.

Interesting. Are you suggesting that the Bible increases the murder rate? Of course not. The only thing this proves is that lack of religion is not synonomous with lack of morality, nor is the presence of religion synonomous with the presence of morality.
To: hemogoblin
Well, we will have to not agree.
As I think the root of the problem runs much deeper than that.
Regards.

GOD has told us that those that don't have a love for the truth will be deluded by him. Notice how the rose-colored glasses crowd disappeared after you said that.

Even Jesus was against religion, the white-washed tombs, the hypocrits, the legalistic traditionalists. America is full of them. You're right - hypocrisy is a loser, and it shows. bets
15 -
If God in the person of Christ was against religion why did he accept the religious practices of his time? Why indeed was he born into a culture that was based on very specific religious practices? He could just as easily have been incarnated into any century or any culture. Your statement makes no sense.Diva
Please pay attention to my words, which were that religion is a loser when it's hypocrisy in the form of legalistic tradition..... opposed to true heart-felt traditions that express one's devotion to God.
Honestly, where are America's priorities? Do you realize how many people around you believe in revenge? How about abortion? How about parents who put their children above everything, including God? How about a marital cheating rate between 60-80%? You can fill in the blanks.
Jesus said he'd rather a person be hot or cold than lukewarm. He means pick a side - don't sit on the fence professing to be something you're not. Hypocrits are losers. That's what I'm saying.

A lot of things have gone downhill since the '62 abomination about no prayer in schools and the '73 abomination about killing babies. It's been more than 90 years since we had a national Spiritual Awakening in our once-God-fearing country. The good news is - one's coming.

Could we all agree that America will continue to lose its civility if it continues to 1) devalue marriage, 2) devalue human life?
EXAMPLE: One of my employees got to talking w/me one day about his beliefs. He said he wasn't of any particular religion, though he felt he was more Hindu than anything. What he proceeded to tell me alarmed me and woke me up to the reality that not everyone thinks like I do....He said that a person's life is worth very little if they're a bad person, and if his dog was drowning at the same time as a known thief, he'd save the dog.
I thought, in this man's world who gets to choose a person's value and with what scale of justice? At what level of crimes would the life slip below the value of a dog's? I was alarmed that I was working in the same office as a person with such a belief about human life. What if I were the one drowing, and there were a whole city of people like him who would make some judgement about me before deciding whether to save me? What if there were a whole country of people who thought that way? (there are, some parts of India where they have the caste system).
The American Founding Fathers had a reason to use Christianity as a basis (though not an imposed religion). With that basis they put value to each human life. In all truth, realize that there are many religions that recommend and condone murder and revenge - remember 9/11. Since there's no imposed religion in America, it's up to Americans themselves (not government) to decide what types of beliefs will be tolerated in this country. Remember that when your school or corporation pushes universal tolerance down your throat.
