The Vast Dubya & DeLay Conspiracy
June 30, 2003
Depending on where you go and in what circles you travel, conservatives are livid with the Bush administration. Some, more so than others, are furious over the size of the federal budget, the failing to rein in any kind of spending, tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the list continues - and theres a great deal of head scratching going on.
I came across an Associated Press story over the weekend that attempts to shed some light on whats happening, which you can hear me read in the audio links below. However, the story seems to imply theres a conspiracy between the White House and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.
Heres just one excerpt: DeLay has become the most identifiable representative of the party's right wing, and the two Texans have had a sometimes scrappy relationship. Clashes may become more frequent as Bush moves beyond his current phase of fund raising among loyal Republicans and shifts his attention to the general electorate, analysts suggest. At the same time, Bush and his advisers are mindful that if they go too far, they could alienate conservatives whose support he needs. Bush is carefully picking and choosing his fights, said GOP consultant Scott Reed. There's a healthy back and forth between the White House staff and DeLay that is mutually beneficial to both.
The story continues to suggest that Bush is telling DeLay to go ahead and stop what hes trying to do - on purpose. The idea being that Bush can thus claim credit for supporting whatever measure, while DeLay and other conservatives can point to victory for blocking its ultimate passage. A caller later asked: Isn't this the same strategy that Bush used on campaign finance reform, only he is counting on the Supreme Court to shoot it down? You can hear my answer below.

"the rhetoric you desire will not achieve it." It's really sad when political correctness replaces honesty.
The PBA ban was a bone thrown to the prolifers, but it has no meat on it.
It changes nothing.
It might as well say that the abortionist must wear red socks when performing this procedure.
The abortion crowd cried because they perceived it as an incremental loss to their cause.
The prolifers praised it as an incremental boost to their cause.
If you read the ban, it is neither. We're still stuck at square one, and our babies are being murdered.

Just thought I'd point out that Carolinamom was talking about you two as well in reply #348.
So what you're saying is that you sell cheap stuff to sucker "clients"
Miss Marple - "I didn't know that Todd was an antique dealer, just like me!"
Marysecretary - "I'm a dealer, too, Miss Marple."
Oops!

It is really sad when someone calls something PC and accuses someone falsely.
You aren't listening to President Bush and his very strong prolife statements. You have yet to say what he is able to do, when he is doing all in his power to move our country in the right direction regarding this matter.

"You aren't listening to President Bush and his very strong prolife statements." You're wrong. I just haven't seen the action follow the words.
GW has never been afraid to push something he believes in.
Witness the opposition to the Iraqi War. He did what he thought was right - thank God.
If he isn't pushing something it simply means that political considerations outweigh his own beliefs.
There are many issues facing America today in which politicians MUST come down on one side or the other.
They can't have it both ways.
This country is polarized more today than at any time in my memory, and the gulf is widening.
Conservatives must fight this socialism creep on a daily basis or we won't have any resemblance of a Republic to leave our kids and grandkids.
To blindly accept everything GW does, for whatever reason, without question, is to rubber stamp the inroads socialism has made in this country.
When I object it is not to defame the character or integrity of George Bush. It is to point out the weaknesses of his policies in an effort to bring about a change and swing the pendulum back toward the Conservative right.
I refuse to be blinded by the man's personal appeal to me.

My opinion on this AP story is it's BS. Like most of what Ap says is BS.

I am correct again Rush has confirmed this AP story is BS.
Principaled conservatives are standing up to Bush over medicare drug bill. They have told Bush they will not support him on this matter.

Well said. I'm not sure why those who now attack Bush ever supported him in the first place. For my vote he is delivering exactly what he promised. They didn't. Notice how many registered immediately before and after the election. They are Brigadier retreads.
