The Vast Dubya & DeLay Conspiracy
June 30, 2003
Depending on where you go and in what circles you travel, conservatives are livid with the Bush administration. Some, more so than others, are furious over the size of the federal budget, the failing to rein in any kind of spending, tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the list continues - and theres a great deal of head scratching going on.
I came across an Associated Press story over the weekend that attempts to shed some light on whats happening, which you can hear me read in the audio links below. However, the story seems to imply theres a conspiracy between the White House and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.
Heres just one excerpt: DeLay has become the most identifiable representative of the party's right wing, and the two Texans have had a sometimes scrappy relationship. Clashes may become more frequent as Bush moves beyond his current phase of fund raising among loyal Republicans and shifts his attention to the general electorate, analysts suggest. At the same time, Bush and his advisers are mindful that if they go too far, they could alienate conservatives whose support he needs. Bush is carefully picking and choosing his fights, said GOP consultant Scott Reed. There's a healthy back and forth between the White House staff and DeLay that is mutually beneficial to both.
The story continues to suggest that Bush is telling DeLay to go ahead and stop what hes trying to do - on purpose. The idea being that Bush can thus claim credit for supporting whatever measure, while DeLay and other conservatives can point to victory for blocking its ultimate passage. A caller later asked: Isn't this the same strategy that Bush used on campaign finance reform, only he is counting on the Supreme Court to shoot it down? You can hear my answer below.

Sorry that's the only place I found on a google search relating Bush's statement.
To: MissAmericanPie
One could certainly have taken him seriously. One could just have easily have believed he was being politically wise in not discussing a possible relection in 2004 when he had barely begun his first time.
But, of course, people see what they want to see.

Fun in a sarcastic sort of way actually. Sorta like the Christians being fed to the lions or something like that. I have learned a lot tonight however, so I guess it isn't a total loss. You know me, sometimes I am a bit naive' about people.

It reminds me of a drunk I saw one night at the Orange Bowl; he kept saying over and over "I just want to BE somebody."

Hey Fred, I just heard Dick Morris on Fox News say that at this point if Bush hopes to win again, polls asking if people plan on voting for him again must stand at 50%. Bush is sitting at 43%.
Morris says Bush should advertise his achievements to woo voters, like his percription drug plan. Yeah, thats the ticket, lol. If I didn't know better I would suspect old Dick of trying to get Bush defeated.

First you quote Mother Jones and now Dick Morris?
If I didn't know better I would suspect old Dick of trying to get Bush defeated.

Bush kissers? That's a new one. LOL (You might want to re-think that one, Todd. In fact, you might want to re-think a lot of things.)
To: TLBSHOW
I was hoping that was the deal with pills for granny stuff. There was absolutely no reason to strong arm the Republicans who could have killed it. Those who wanted it would have appreciated the effort and conservatives would have shrugged.

They know what Reagan said. They just choose to ignore it because it doesn't further their agenda. You have to learn the rules: Only quote Reagan when it doesn't make you look like a dumb-ass. That particular quote clearly identifies the dumb-asses.
And just like MANY analysts are opining that the Democrats are getting desperate and flailing about to grab onto ANY issue they can bash Bush with (including fabricating issues), the so-called TRUE BLUE conservatives on this thread are doing the same thing.
They don't bother to investigate charges made by left-wing rags; they have a knee-jerk, emotional reaction to EVERY little nuance or rumor; they don't READ the Congressional bills they are trashing but instead rely on analysis by some anti-Bush media spinner; in short, they are NO better than....oh.....say....a Terry McCauliffe!
