IRVINE, California (AP) -- Police shot and killed a sword-wielding man described by relatives as schizophrenic after he slashed and killed two former co-workers and wounded three other people at a supermarket where he used to bag groceries.
About 40 to 50 shoppers ran from the store shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday as police went in to subdue Joseph Hunter Parker, who was armed with a samurai-style sword and wearing a beret and trenchcoat, said police Cmdr. Jeff Noble.

My nephew who works there stopped by after. He was just entering to go to work when this began. It was apparantly very brutal. The manger of this store is a great person & we all should say a prayer as this is devastating to them.

Well I got this covered. I got an 1846 Heavy Cavalry Saber in my office and one in the back seat of my truck at this moment. Of course I am a CCW holder so the sword is moot.
This guy was a follower of the Highlander series so the recipiants of the swordplay would have been really in bad shape; I believe the Highlander decapitated his victims. This is sad and tragic for the innocent victims.

My wife heard he wouldn't take his medicine, which for various mental conditions can (and obviously does) have some drastic consequences.

armed with a samurai-style sword and wearing a beret and trenchcoat It sounds as if he wasn't sure whether he was the Pink Panther, Cato, or General Shinseki.
