RIP Strom, you did a lot of great work in the Senate, now your work is done. We could still use you but maybe God has a job for you to do now. Prayers to you and your family. Take care and Godspeed.

" What got me was one goaded them saying, "Let's not act like Freepers."
I was on line at Starbucks, shortly after the President landed on the Lincoln. Behind me were 2 twentysomething females,(hard to tell), spiked purple hair, tats, nose rings, flip flops with dirty feet-you get the picture. They were ridiculing the President's carrier landing and actually said, that GW had started the war, specifically so he could have an opportunity to wear the flight suit ! At first,my inclination was to whip around and get in their faces, but,on reflection, I wound up smiling, because they represent the present and the future of the Democrat Party.
Strom Story -.My sister was in DC a few years ago for a function and was seated behind Strom. Before the festivities started,Strom looked behind him, caught a glimpse of my sister and his face lit up. He had an aide with him and he struggled to his feet and shuffled over to talk with her. My sister said that he was so courtly and so charming, that it was a pleasure to chat with him.She was honored that this extremely elderly and clearly frail man was so solicitous, fussing over her to make sure she didn't need anything. He was bright,he was engaging,he was a gentleman in the true sense of the word.

I know Trent is ball-less but I don't make the connection. His words about Strom cost him his job. Who do you suggest?

"I was sorry, when he retired, that he wasn't able to give interviews. He was an immensely interesting and thoughtful man when he discussed his political life."
I actually enjoyed the stories of him flirting with Clinton's lawyers during the impeachment trial.

As governor, he called for forceful prosecution after a black man, a murder suspect, was lynched by a mob. The result was a trial at which 31 white men were defendants. No one talks about that.

Rest in peace sir. You were probably one of the last true statesmenMay God comfort and bless his family, and those whose life he touched. Senator Thurmond was a statesman beyond compare, and a well-loved and respected servant of the people of his state. May he rest in peace.

"How about knocking it off on this thread, at least, re: Lindsey Graham."
Sure, if you can tell me where I was wrong. I have a great deal of respect for Strom. He was true to the constitution. Its a shame . . a DAMN shame that the man who took his spot in the Senate isn't. For your sake, I'll leave it at calling Graham a butt boy. But I could certainly use stronger words for him (and his defenders). I have no doubt that Strom, were he alive, would agree with me.

I am SO glad to hear that. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what kept him going this long.

Don't think so. That's an earlier C-Span logo, so the pic probably goes back a few years.
