RED ALERT -- OUR PROPERTY RIGHTS DENIED IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Posted on 06/21/2003 1:52:32 PM PDT by Jonez712

Recently, my family has decided to do some work on our backyard, which includes felling some useless trees. As many of you probably know, this is one of the most liberal counties in the country. In fact, Santa Cruz county employs more people than any other county in the state, aside from Los Angeles county. And the difference here is that our county has a population of less than 150,000, and Los Angeles county has a population of over 10 million...

Naturally, with this kind of ulta-liberal collectivism going on in a county, the Board of Stupidvisors will get out of hand. These mentally-warped fools have passed certain regulations, supposedly in the name of saving the "enviiiiironnnmeennt," that are outright un-Constitutional violations of our property rights. In an effort to save "old grooooowwwth," the illiberal stupidvisors have made felonious to fell a tree, a TREE, in your own backyard, on your own property that you bought and that you own, without a permit, which costs time and money to obtain.

So now we have to go down to the big county building (a shrine to liberalism) and get down on our knees and beg permission from the almighty stupidvisors to simply cut down a couple trees on our own property.

Sounds like a great liberal idea, doesn't it??

The morons will click their heels, snap to "jawohl!" and vote as a man and a woman to retain Governor Gray Davis this year. Yep, they are that stupid.

Why do liberals have to move to the loveliest areas of the planet? Its not enough they've taken over the cities, now they're moving into flyover country...

Invest some $500,000 in one or more federal suits asserting your 5th, 9th, 10th, and 14th Amendment rights. Private property is not government property. If you have standing firewood, then firewood it is. But the $10-20 for a 30" bow saw works wonders at night if a chain saw at High Noon is beyond your guts.

I forgot for the moment, the 9th Circus does not recognize our Constitution.

I wonder what a contemporary "tea party" felling every tree under about 20 years of age would do, on private property of course. It could make every day an aarbor Day.

A double bit ax sort of looks like a cross.

One solution... drive a copper nail into the tree's trunk. From what I hear, it may take time, but a tree is history from that point on.

Cutting down a tree? Why not Mr. Gestapo Agent, look it is dead!

Empathetic "awwwwwwws" from the next county over. Salinas, home of the highest crime rate in this entire half of the state due to the illegal influx and gang violence, deems it necessary to deputize a Flower Patrol to make sure you're not growing unauthorized plants on your own property. Our church on Pajaro St. was almost ticketed for having the wrong flowers out front, and the voulnteer gardener told she had to take those plants out and replace them from the "permissible" list.

Meanwhile, we are absolutely groaning at the seams from the unbearable stress of thousands of illegals pouring in. Way to go, Mayor. </sneer>

A county building is not a shrine to anything except self-governance. If you don't like a law you are free to challenge it, or petition to remove it, or comply with it, or break it and accept the consequences, or move. You have so many free will choices you can make.

How do the dolts in positions of responsibilty to the public get elected? Does anyone challenge them to defend their beliefs? Have all the formerly intelligent people become so adle-brained from watching TV & cable that they can no longer perceive and analyze?

Dang, people, get off your rear ends and vote. If you want your state back, you will have to participate.

20 gallons of vinegar at the root may make the tree "sick"..a sick tree is in danger of falling...they may order you to down it.
perhaps you could intentionally infest it with termites?
Someone mentioned the copper nail...

***on your own property. Our church on Pajaro St. was almost ticketed for having the wrong flowers out front***

HUH? What kind of flowers did she have planted?

A few years ago, I was at the garden shop buying purple loosestrife plants which were sterile. They were approved by the liberals at Cornell as not being harmful to the environment.

Another customer got very upset. It didn't matter if the plants were sterile. She insisted that I was about to commit a crime against Mother Earth. She just would NOT shut up. No proof in the world would satisfy her. The environmentalists are so brain washed they're beyond accepting reason.

I bought the plants anyway.

Benicia, Solano County here.

I had a similar experience when I wanted to remove a dead tree from my back yard. I was soliciting bids for the work (60' tree 28" trunk), when one of them asked if I had obtained a work permit from the city. NO!

Can't do the work w/o a permit. NO WAY! ..... Yes, way.

I went to city hall, filed a permit, drew a sketch of the trees location reraltive to my house and paid $20.00.

Three days later the permit was approved and since the tree was almost dead, I was refunded the $20.00. I spoke to the inspector and he advised that virtually every permit is approved and most are refunded the $20.00. The city was just trying to avoid a potential problem.

I still think the whole thing was stupid.

By the way, I just finished splitting the last of the wood from that tree and got about two cords from it. Kept us nice and warm all winter.

One solution... drive a copper nail into the tree's trunk.

There was a story a number of years ago about a dispute between two neighbors In Laguna Beach. One lived uphill from the other and wamted the down hill beighbor to remove a tree so as to improve his view. He offerd to pay for it.

The neighbor refused, She said she had planted the tree when she first moved in 50 years ago and it was going to stay.

He spiked the tree and I think poured gasoline into the roots. The tree died. He then filed a a complaint that the tree was dangerous and the lady had to remove it at her expense.

The Lady was on a fixed income and the fee was a major setback to her, not to mention the memories she had of it.

All that just to have a little better view. Sad, very sad
