I was wondering about that, too. Whenever I've watched TV shows that show the Brit cops after a suspect, the dash/road cam always showed kilometers/hour.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? It doesn't surprise me. It's a total police state.

The mile is still in common usage, as far as I can remember. My British friends talk about going "0 to 60" not "0 to 100", and the last time I was outside of London, the traffic report I had on was reading off distances in miles.

I believe they are called English measurements.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? That's right: we still use MPH and miles exclusively on the road.
In fact, it's illegal to use kmh speed limit signs and km distance signs. A local council was fined last year for using km on a footpath sign.

Oh the horror!! Wait till I tell the EU that these pesky Britons have the audacity to insist on english measurements. The EU will crush these British upstarts, just like they crushed George Bush and the mean spirited US. Oh, wait a minute, it was the US that crushed the pathetic EU.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? I think the photo also shows 229 kph.
As far as this being the fastest ever clocked, that's surprising. Many cars can easily go that fast.....the cameras must be new.

The Brits give speeding tickets in mph? Miles, pounds, gallons etc. are all called "Imperial Measures" and are a gift from the Brits.
In fact, there was quite a row a few years back when British butchers had to replace their imperial scales with metric ones.
Personally, as much as I dislike the French, the metric system is far superior to imperial. It is a shame it has never really taken off in our country. The only Americans who use the metric system are scientists and drug dealers.

From the picture it seems as though he is riding on the right side of the road - don't they drive on the left side in GB?

And signs in mph, too. Unless they have changed it since May.
