You have asked a question I asked myself every single day, from 1992 to 2000.
As a former schoolteacher, please allow me to give you an important Modern US History lesson:
In my opinion, the reason why Clinton was elected twice---why so many people were willing to vote for him--is very simple: MONEY. $$$$$$$$$
As James Carville (truly a VILE man!), who planned and directed Clinton's election campaign, said, "It's the economy, stupid!" <---This was his campaign slogan for the Clinton people. He kept reminding them over and over that people, when given a choice betwen their pocketbook and their morality would choose their pocketbook! (at least enough of them would to get him elected.)
Tragically, Carville was right. The mindset of people in the prosperity-crazed 90's was: how can I accumulate more cash? Who is going to make sure I get richer?
They bought the line Clinton gave them---even though as soon as he could, he passed the biggest TAX INCREASE in American history. He was a liar from the beginning.
But, in my perspective, when you scratch your head and wonder how all those Americans could be so stupid as to elect him twice, it all came down to MONEY.
After those 8 miserable, embarrassing years, I believe a lot of people began to re-evaluate their priorities:
Is money REALLY the most important thing to me?
Or is it having a President that I'm not ashamed of?
A First Lady that doesn't sicken me?
Is it important to me that my grandchildren not look back on this time in history and ask me, "How COULD you vote for such an immoral man?"
I believe that in SOME areas, among SOME demographic groups, the tide is slowly beginning to turn back from "We'll elect anything, just as long as he promises us prosperity" to "Who is a leader I could follow with trust and pride?"
George W Bush, is that man, ADK.
Whatever your news outlets say--whatever foolishness CNN and BBC put out there, what I've just told you is the truth. This is a man with courage, honor, integrity and dignity. He RESPECTS women, he doesn't USE them. He has a moral footing that helps to guide his decisions.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" the book of Proverbs says. "A good understanding have all they who do His commandments," it goes on to say. George Bush has those qualities. We haven't seen them in very many of our leaders in a long, long time.
Remember the above, and filter what you hear through what I've just told you.

Thx re your post #148 (I think; the one about the "rope around my waist" -- it chafed something awful!) ;)

You forgot voter fraud! Why do you think Dems yell so much about Florida? IMO, they do so to give the "impression" that W won via fraud to distract from all of their voter irregularities that failed to work in parts of the last two elections!
I turned on Fox News for a bit and had it on long enough to hear some BBC guy mention Bush's voter irregularities in Florida or some stupid DNC talking points mantra phrase and turned it off when he moved on to his next point and it didn't sound like Linda Vester was going to challenge him on that. I get so angry about the DNC twisted comments like "we want to make every vote count" that they use to hide when they're actually doing the opposite.
Now I need to go pray and relax to get my blood pressure under control ... again.

I have to venture out of the house for a bit to run a couple of errands.
It's a good thing I still have this rope around my waist! Will you hold onto the end of it to make sure I get back okay? ;)
