When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's it was consider chicken shit and cowardly to shoot a man in the back. It still is.

Apropos of chicken shit:
A little boy is sitting on the curb mixing something in a bucket. Buford Justice comes by and begins to try to intimidate the kid by demanding to know what is being mixed in the bucket.
The answer: "Chichen shit and water."
Ossifer Justice demands to know what is being made with the mix and is told "Gwine to make me a postman".
The pithicine parasite laughs and says "Ain't got the guts to make a cop?"
Answer: "Nawsuh, ain't got 'nuff chichen shit."
And before flaming me, I have some friends who are officers and agree - shooting a man in the back is nearly impossible to justify; "plumb chicken shit" was one comment. Not impossible in this case, evidently.
But let's not forget that that state has a legal code based not on English Common Law, nor does it draw upon Blackstone.
Louisana law is based on the Napoleonic Code. Take American Law and stand it on its head and you get the idea.
