Is Free Republic too "Republican?"
Jim Robinson

Posted on 06/13/2003 1:55:59 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Is Free Republic too "Republican?" I've been receiving a lot of complaints lately that FR is not really conservative, it's Republican. Is that a bad thing?

When I started FR (see the wayback machine) I don't think I even used the labels conservative or Republican. But, even though I was a registered Democrat at the time (I registered when I was very young), I was definitely anti-Democrat. And definitely anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-government abuse, anti-liberalism, etc. And I still am.

As FR became more and more popular, people started referring to it as a "conservative" web site and so eventually I posted the label to the front page. If it no longer applies, big deal. What's in a label? I'll change it to "Republican" if demand warrants.

I'm still anti-big government, anti-government corruption, anti-Democrat and anti-liberalism. I just happen to believe that in the current political environment we stand a better chance of defeating the left (liberalism/socialism/marxism, etc) by using the Republican Party to defeat the Democrats. The organization is there. The platform is there. The winning candidates are there. The dollars to run winning campaigns are there. The momentum is there. And the vast majority of the conservative voters are there.

Makes perfect sense to me. I want to defeat the left, and I want to do it as quickly as possible. I'll go with the organization that can get the job done.

My current goal is to defeat liberalism by defeating the Democrat Party. If that labels me a Republican, then so be it. If the vast majority of the FReepers want it so, then Free Republic will officially become the newest "Republican wing" of the Republican Party.

Long live Republicanism. Long live the Republic!'

What say you, FReepers?

Blame the republicans for an equal share of the responsibilities of tearing our great nation into a cesspool as they have rode the coattails of democrats, all along.

And your thread equates conservatives with republicans? And your thoughts are about creating some sort of equation between the two?

Years ago, the two major political parties in America made a pact between each other. They basically created BIG_GOVERNMENT cloaking themselves as the benefactors of our countries bounty. Today, they claim that patriotism is swallowing government rule about our lives while the government leads our troops into perpetual war around the world to save us here in America.

What a crock of American politician's fecal material!

Good night. I trust you to be a small "r" republican in principle and motivation (which is a-lot better than being a large "R" Republican by unprincipled motives).

Oh, I read it and it's the same rationale that was used against Bush 41 that got Clinton elected.

Your opinion ? What opinion ? You haven't stated any and you're a newbie, so have no track record here.

If you don't wnat to vote for any Republican, then you don't have to. OTOH, if you either don't vote at all, or vote for some fringe candidate, the ONLY thing that you're doing is a total waste of your time; not to mention cutting off your nose to spite your face.

And as far as the " lesser of two evils " thing, that's so bannal, ridiculous, and unworthy of anyone who imagines that they are at all knowledgeable of politics/history, as to be beneath contempt.

You better believe our_government is a conspiracy about our_country. Tell me when you last heard of any political party member (republican or democrat, alike) that has talked in public about the foundations of our nation; where has anyone advocated our individual rights, liberties and freedoms?

Why do you think that contemporary America is always engaged in perpetual war around the world? Do you think for a moment that the government is protecting you while it off serving the UN?

I think Bush just gave the UN the finger.

Was 9/11 part of the " conspiracy " ? Did President Bush have the guys who flew those planes on his payroll ?

No he didn't. He gave the UN a reason to enjoin a world community with America paying the bills. All he did was take the 'bull by the horn.' The end result shall be the same, stupid American tax payers beg for the UN to govern the world as long as the US has strength.

Dubya stubbed his toes on this. The reasons are simple, too. The aggravation of two coincidental nations that had no direct links to terrorism are going to kill our military might. In turn, the UN shall set up a tribunal so as to usurp power.... and still, no OBL and no Saddam.

Its already happening. The EU is distancing themselves from America and simultaneously the ME are moving towards the EURO against the dollar, deflating the buck. Nope, the UN has its clutches upon America ... and GWBush let it happen.

The center of the enemy's will to fight (Clausewitz) is not where you describe it...Defeating the Democratic Party is only a means to an end, and not the main source of malignant cancer that must be exercised permanently from the nation. Your site is worth 20 divisions in the battle to destroy the Liberal will to fight -- as long as your forces remain concentrated in the educational and ideological sphere of battle. Ronald Reagan tried to never compromise conservative principles for either the Republicans or the Dems. Principles are superior to Party -- always.

Beats me. Why don't you ask the CIA that literally created this ordeal for America; under GWBush's watch.

Defeating liberalism is just a step. Restoring the Constitution, the Republic and our Liberty is the goal.

"I doubt it. " -- Jim Robinson

I am confident you doubt any opinion that differs from yours. Still, where are the republicans or democrats (for that matter) that place American individual values and dignity first? Name one .. all I see is GWBush sucking Blair's socialist agenda into the UN.

Keep it a Conservative site. It seems to me that there are at least a few Conservative Demo(n)crats who visit here, as well as Libertarians and other like-minded folks.

Call it a "Republican" site, if you wish. Just don't let the RNC have any policy or editorial control over content or presentation. That would be a bad move. The independence of this site is paramount.

There probably aren't very many Democrats. And I have no idea how many Republicans. But you can view the voting records of each and see that almost all of the Democrats score very low on conservative scales and the Republicans (with a few notable exceptions) are mostly on the high end.
