Deer smashes through window, chases woman

Julie Ann Somenek was sitting at her kitchen table in Northbrook on Monday morning, reading her Sun-Times. The next moment, she was face-to-face with a 200-pound, four-point buck that had just crashed through her living room window after being chased by a neighbor's dog.
"I didn't have time to look up when I heard it come through the window," said Somenek, who lives in the 4300 block of Phyllis Road. "I was surprised."
Once inside, the deer went for the 62-year-old woman, knocking her out of her chair, then heading to the laundry room. Somenek, who owns Somenek Pastries in Niles, thought fast.
"I'm not sure how I got up, but I was able to lock it in the room," she said. "I was scared it was going to break out."
It tried, thrashing and kicking and banging on the door. A few minutes later, the police arrived and devised a plan: They left the back door open, then a brave soul opened the laundry room door and moved out of the way while the buck ran out the back.
It worked, but the deer made a mess of the laundry room.
"He must have cut himself because it looked like a murder scene in there," said Somenek's son, Ed, who was also home at the time. "There was blood everywhere."
Julie Ann Somenek was checked out at Glenbrook Hospital's emergency room, where doctors and nurses kept coming by to hear her story.
"We would see deer in the back yard all the time," her son said later. "We used to like them-- not anymore."

You're absolutely correct.
Deer are pests.
But the average twit is led to believe that deer are an endangered species.

Somebody just sent me the link... it was buried in another thread. This guy has a lot of friends, or so it seems. Hard to tell if this was an email along the lines of "a friend emailed me...". Hmmm.
To: Thinkin' Gal
Oh please post the link. That story sounds interesting.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/915469/posts?page=19#19 There are a few posts afterwards, debating the legitimacy and the details. I forwarded them to my husband's work email, so he can show them to his friend. It could be one of those silly "friend of a friend" emails [that multiply like tribbles]. Maybe hubby can have a little fun with the guy, if he's yapping about third, fourth, fifth, or n9th-hand information, hah.

Cav,
Count your blessings... if you shoot a deer in the People's Collective of Chicago (ie. Cook County, IL), you get arrested and jailed quicker than if you shoot a human.

How in heck do you find all these weird stories?

Yeah, its almost that bad in Lawrence, Ks (where I work)..
But the farther you go north into the boonies you go,(where I live) the deer are viewed as tasty vermin.
Just got to love those tree huggers!!

You are so right. Some people try to deny it, but mankind is a predator species. It's not right or wrong, it just is. It is what we are, and hunting is (among many things) a spiritual connection to our most basic legacy as human beings. It is a link to our own history and taps into genetic memory that transcends not just generations, but epochs.
No, I'm not Ted Nugent. I just talk like that. :-)

You are extremely blessed to still be alive. Hitting a deer with a motorcycle is usually fatal Don't I know it! I give all credit to the Lord for sparing me.

Well, I sure am sorry you are not THE TN.
I thought he was finally going to get serious after all these years..oh wait, that was Alice Cooper I used to know when I was a kid in Pontiac, and before he hit the big time!
The other famous guy was from Waterford...Bob Segar(sp) I think.
Oh well,Ted, Bob,and Alice are plenty of talent from the neighborhood and garage bands of my youth to establish me as an expert.
In my expert opinion,I prefer the southern climes and times offered by Toby Keith and his truck.
TK can kick TNs bu!! from here to forever!
As a woman, if I must deal with testosterone,I prefer megadoses.

No, she doesn't live on my street, as I don't live in Chicago (there is a God--LOL!) Of course this could happen on my street, or at my house, as our deer population is huge and growing! We have them in the yard all the time, especially right after we try to add new plants to the landscape--to replace the ones the deer just ate!

I swear, if you changed the word "deer" to "Thomas", this same thing happened after my daughter filed for divorce.
