House of Representatives ^
Posted on 06/03/2003 5:39:36 PM PDT by sdk7x7
WorldNetDaily and CNSNews.com are currently running stories on a Congressman (http://www.cnsnews.com/Nation/Archive/200306/NAT20030602a.html) who is the only member of the House to fly the UN flag outside his office.
But get this... A NUMBER OF REPUBLICANS HAVE INTRODUCED LEGISTLATION, WITH 12 COSPONSORS, TO GET THE US OUT OF THE UNITED NATIONS!
Click the link to see the actual bill name, cosponsors, and any additional info.

We would never leave. Why? We have a veto. If we leave, they get to run it as is.
What we should do is simply demand a more proportional financial representation and withhold anything beyond, and then veto everything.

This is very short sighted!!! We are going to get killed on this one. Once this bill dies a horrible death and get demonized in the press as a "kook" bill presented by "kooks" then the UN and it's allies will be emboldened. We will have gotten no where! From the looks of things you guys are having a blast running off to battle. We'll see how much fun you are having when you have set our cause back immeasurably. Good job guys.

Cong Lucas from Okalhoma is a straight shooter and as down to earth as they come! So glad to see he is on board with this bill!

Gee it'll be fun to send a letter to my Rep, Sam Farr, the guy with the UN flag at his office in DC and in Carmel. Yep, it'll be fun to ask him to support this bill. I'll get back another one of his insulting derogatory replies. Such a man of the people! Such a friend to the citizen! Such a loyal American !

Thanks for the ping -- glad to see Cong Lucas as a co-sponsor!

My representative Joel Hefley (CO) is onboard too.
I'd enjoy seeing this pass, but I don't think its gonna happen.

Now that would be great news if it happened.

This is the House.
Our House folks are pretty good. Delay is gung-ho about gutting the income tax and replacing it with the FairTax and is a co-sponsor of the Linder bill.
Unfortunately, we need a stronger group of tough conservatives in the Senate.....and a filibuster-proof majority. Unless some miracle happens and the economy next year makes the 90's look like the Great Depression, this is almost impossible. If the economy isn't tanking...basically if it stays pretty stable with some areas of growth and some areas of suckiness like we see now...I think we will be in good shape to keep the Presidency and perhaps increase our Senate numbers by a couple seats and gain a good number in the House. But, not enough to get this type of stuff through.
If I had my way there would not be one committee in Congress; everything would get debated and voted on the floor......with no filibusters allowed and that goes for when we are in the minority also. EVERY BILL DESERVES A VOTE. But, the committees largely do not serve a noble purpose; they serve to block bills. Many many bills do not get get out of there. Thus, we need a massive majority to enact any major changes.....committees will kill it otherwise.

"Not only will the US not withdraw from the UN, I predict that the US will give even more money to the UN next year."Hehehe...
I will attach to your prediction, my own cynical prediction: A gay Frenchman will secede UN Pimp, Kofi Annon.

Bush believes in the need for the U.N. and I can understand where is coming from. But, I also believe he intentionally tried to make them look ineffectual in the Iraq matter to kind of "punish" them for crossing us in many cases.
Bush is a man of clear language and clear action, but he also has a side of incredible craftiness. What a President!
I just hope this at least gets out of committee, but that likely won't even happen. We need to start the discussion on this. Perhaps we should not withdraw, but we should do something funding-wise.

It's a token bill to create a discussion. Do you actually think the House leadership is going to make this a priority?
It won't even hit the last page of the New York Times.

Do you actually think the House leadership is going to make this a priority? No they are not.
Last friday I heard Tom DeLay interviewed on a talk radio show, he was asked about this bill. He said there were not enough votes to pass it, he said he wished there were enough votes, he would like to get us out of the U.N. He also said that without enough votes to pass it he has no intrest in bringing it up for a vote.
He also said at this time there were not enough votes to pass the Assult Weapons Ban, unless there are enough votes to pass it, it is unlikely it will be brought up for a vote.

softengine, Thanks for the PING!!
Thank God there are some Congressmen that see the light. I think I will contact Marilyn Musgrave and ask her to sign on.
To all: I wipe my boots on the U.N. flag!! Literally!!
They want me disarmed. They want to take away my freedoms. Time for cutting the U.N. tax!
When we FReep the leftists here in Colorado, I regularly bring along my U.N. flag so everyone can wipe their boots on it. Try it sometime, it really gets to em. LOL!

IF we leave they collapse, especially if we convince Japan to leave as well. We and Japan contribute half of their budget.
