Amazing Race Freepers!

In little more than twenty-four hours, race-time is growing near. This is a television show like no other. It’s a whirlwind, non-stop race around the world for one million dollars that one wrong turn can eliminate you from the race. Choose your path wisely and win a weeklong cruise on some segments. Choose poorly and your team could wind up in a Moroccan jail like Andre and Damon on Amazing Race #3. That’s the adventure of the Amazing Race!

This season, it appears we have an even greater assortment of eye-candy, manipulators, potential whiners and oddballs in this year’s competitors. Do they have what it takes to travel some +20k miles by air, sea and land around the world? You can out on the Amazing Race #4 starting tomorrow May 29 at 8PM EST.

Like last season, I will publish the Amazing Race #4 (TAR4) “box scores” and play-by-play overviews of each episode. Please let me know if you want on or off this ping list.

Race On!

Oh, now there would have been the possibility that Chuck, being Chuck, would have wimped out, and we could have seen Millie in her undies.

The roadblock had the most disgusting food challenge I ever saw - live, raw, chopped up octopus.

Call me crazy, but I didn't think that was a bad challenge at all. It's just sushi!

No, it isn't - I eat sushi a lot, and love octopus, but there is just something about eating something alive that bugs me.

Many thanks for the great summation!

I would never have made it through the octopus....I love sushi and sashimi, and even, as the counterman at our local sushi trattoria calls it, giant cram. But squirmy squigly sucky octopus would have grossed me out.

As usual, I really don't care who wins but hope they all have difficult problems, impossible hurdles, and many wrong turns next week just to keep it exciting for the viewers. Well, I like the clowns, but at this point, any team still in the difficult race deserves to win.

Amazing Race FReepers!

Keeping with tradition, here is your day-early predictions!

Last leg we saw the following scores:

1st: Team Kravitz *booo*
2nd: Team Frilly *booo*
3rd: Team Foam Nose Patrol
4th: Jeff and David (leg was non-elimination, so they are still on)

Using my fake ESP powers (is there any other kind?), I predict the following:

I think that Kelly and Jon are going this leg. They are VERY uptight, and even if a team has good skills overall, being tense and gripey can kill you.

It's a tough call between the other three teams. Jon and Al are calm, funny, but serious when it is required. Jeff and David are calm as well, and they have good heads on their shoulders. We rarely see them go awol, and that's a good thing for them. Team Frilly (as much as I hate to admit it) are a good team. They know how to focus on the task.

I predict:

1st/2nd: Team FNP or D&J. They are both very skilled teams. It really is 50/50.
3rd: Team Frilly, because they are a little slow and they have used up their Fast Forward.
4th: Team Kravitz. They are on the edge of nervous break-downs, exactly where Millie and Chuck were. Psst, Jon, take back the ring...

Remember, fun only, no betting allowed...
Race on!

If Frilly is only team left to have no fast forward opportunity, they may well get eliminated. But they are a good team. I wouldn't count anyone out at this point, even the unloved Kravitz pair. I really like the clowns but am always amazed that they do so well when they look like a pair of screwups. David and Jeff? They're not very interesting to watch.

Where are they going this week? I usually watch the scenery more than the players...hope it's a place I've never seen.

Not bad prognosticating for a "rookie" :~D
Who knows, with a little experience, you may develop as bad a record as jriemer and yours truly.

Now for my pics. (And remember, I have yet to be correct!)

I predict:
This will be an elimination round.
The Kravitz’ will attempt to expand their slim lead by going for the Fast Forward.
The Foam Nose Patrol will also try for the Fast Forward.
Team Frilly will (unfortunately) not be eliminated this round.
Team Surfer Dudes (sorry, couldn’t come up with a better nickname for these two) will decide to try and save their Fast Forward for the end of the race.
(General question for anybody – Has any team ever saved their Fast Forward for the final leg of the race? Do the Producers even permit Fast Forwards during the last leg?)

Anyway, tonight’s line up will be:
1st – Team Surfer Dudes
2nd – The Foam Nose Patrol
3rd – Team Frilly
4th and eliminated – Team Kravitz

Remember, I have yet to be correct on any of my team placements, so take it for what it’s worth.

Enjoy, Cuz

I would almost guarantee that they are going to Australia. The show has three more legs to go and they need to find a large urban area with warm weather (rapelling in shorts) and a shark-filled aquarium. They've already been to Syndey perhaps Perth or Melbourne.

It's too early in the show for the Hawaii stop-over before arriving back at the US on the final leg.

Nice guys always finish 4th or 5th in this show (Danny/Oswald, Jon Vito/Jill). I'll miss the clownns. So now we're left with:
- Team Frilly, who I like to win despite their idiocy (on foot means NO cars)
- Team Kravitz - impressive to make it this far. I would not count them out.
- Team Surfer - A couple of good legs, the rest unremarkable. Hope you're never my lifeguards.

It looks like next week is an exhibition Down Under, then a final race across the Pacific to home, wherever that is. A final trip across 'Merica would be nice instead of ending on the Left Coast.

Amazing Race FReepers!

Here I am again to give you the basic happenings of TAR4! I won't leave. At least not until I get my paycheck.

If my spelling is horrible again, it's because it's 9:06 CT and I don't do so well late at night.

The teams are as follows:

Team Frilly
Team Kravitz
Team FNP
David and Jeff

Teams leave from the Palace in Seoul to the Hangang Park to get their instructions. When they get to the park, they must find a display of flying kites, and pull on a wire to get one of them down, since these flags hold the envelopes with the instructions inside. DO NOTE, however, that the wire that they pull on is not the wire holding them all in the air. Jon???

Jon, from Kelly and Jon, failed to realize this and pulled hard on the main wire. The tension became so tight that the wire snapped and entire display came down. Smart move, Jon. < /sarcasm > Kelly, during this display noticed that the antics of the native Koreans weren't very encouraging: "Jon was pulling on the main wire and the whole time you could hear the little Korean people going "oooooooooohhhhh" in the background". That would be your first clue, dorkwads. Geeeez, let's just give these people one mil. < /double sarcasm >

Once all the teams get their kites down correctly, they received directions to go and get airplane tickets to Brisbane, Austrailia. Congrats, jriemer, you actually got it right! Let's give 'im a hand! *clapclapclap* Ok, enough of that...

Teams got tickets to go on planes...but, however, crucial events took place. All teams except Team FNP got on one plane traveling from Seoul to Singapore to Brisbane. Heavy fog caused major delays, making teams to fall back in time. Team FNP's plane was most effected, with the delay being at least two hours. Thankfully, they managed to get tickets to a direct flight to Brisbane.

Once in Brisbane, team placement is as follows:

1st- David and Jeff
2nd- Kelly and Jon
3rd- Reichen and Chip
4th- Jon and Al

The next destination is a hotel (in Brisbane, I think), and find the conciere. He will take them to the roof, where the route marker is. What does THAT tell you....?

David and Jeff, though in first, choose to do the fast forward.

In a Fast Forward, teams may skip all tasks and go directly to the pit stop. In this Fast Forward, teams must go to a public beach and do a lifeguard exercise: swim out on surfboards and rescue a woman in the water. Teams must bring her safely back to shore in order to get the Fast Forward.

Meanwhile, the other teams are doing the Detour.

A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons. This Detour is between Face First and Foot First. In Face First, teams must go to the top of the hotel, and horizontally repel down the building. This is NOT the repeling WE do. This is a vertical building teams must walk down, face first (no kiddin?), horizontally. It's a fast task compared to Foot First, but it can be stressful on the mind and body. In Foot First, teams must find a building in with a TAR flag on it. They must climb up 30 flights of stairs in order to get to the top of the building, where the route marker is located. There's nothing scary about this task, but it would take much longer. All teams go for Face First.

Back at the beach, David and Jeff are discovering that rescuing a person is harder than it looks. After finding the girl and getting to her, they have mucho trouble getting her on the board. They continuosly flip the board over and drag her back on. Please guys, if you're ever on a Texas beach, don't rescue me. Please.

Team FNP is waaaaaaay behind Team Frilly and Team Kravitz, who are already on their way to the next destination: the UnderWaterWorld theme park. There, they must find a glas tunnel surrounded by water and many types of live fish and other aquatic life. In this tunnel is the route marker containing a Road Block.

A Road Block is a task that only one member of the team may perform. In this Road Block, teams must put on scuba gear and swim -- actually "walk" is the better term -- in the water surroundind the tunnels, and find a small treasure chest holdind the next set of directions. Jon goes through it pretty quickly. Reichen, however, is another story. Ah, yes, the lovely gay people... Reichen was slooooowly making his way across, when for some reason he just stops and waves his arm. I don't know why, mom was talking, so I didn't hear. This might not be so bad if there wasn't a shark coming in from behind. Guess what a waving arm looks like underwater? A fish! And guess what a fish is to a shark? DINNER. NOT GOOD.

Thankfully, Reichen is not bitten, and sloooowly makes his way to the chest and back.

By the time this has happened, Jeff and David have completed their tasks and are coming up to the pit stop: the Mooloolaba (that's not moo-loo-lah-bah, that's moo-lau-lah-bah. i think. groan...) Yatch Club.

The first team to arrive is David and Jeff. They win a vacation in Mexico after the race.

The second team to arrive is Team Frilly. HOWEVER, they drove to the Pit Stop, when the directions clearly say they must RUN to the Pit Stop. They are given a time penalty of 35 minutes. If Team Kravitz and Team FNP make it, they will be booted off.

Team Kravitz is the third team to arrive, but because of the penalty to Team Frilly, they are bumped to second.

Team FNP comes in as the fourth team to arrive -- and stays that way. The time penalty was not lond enough and sadly, they were eliminated.

The scores are as follows:

1st- David and Jeff
2nd- Team Kravitz
3rd- Team Frilly
Eliminated: Team FNP

The next leg is the last leg, with the final three teams competing for the win.

I'll post the happenings of the race, but only half-heartedly. I wanted Team FNP to win, but I guess that was never meant to be. I hope David and Jeff win now...they're our only hope.

Race on!

I'm in deep mourning for the clowns.

I guess I'll be rooting for the David and Jeff....although I had to scroll back to your post to see what their names are. They just don't leave much of an impression, but at least they're better than the Frillies or Kravitzes.
