Sword attack on 'car thief'

A furious car owner wielding a Samurai sword stabbed and seriously injured a man he thought had tried to break into his vehicle.

The armed man and his wife, who was also armed with a baseball bat, searched the streets for the gang of youths.

Insp Andy Murcott said the 21-year-old victim was stabbed in the kidney.

The incident happened at about 1.30am on Saturday after a neighbour spotted a gang attempting to break into his car.

The vigilante couple then armed themselves and chased the gang through the streets around the house in Old Park Road, Dudley.

After wounding the man the attacker then rang police to say what had happened.

Mr Murcott said: "There was some kind of altercation resulting in the stabbing.

"At one point we thought we could be dealing with a murder because the injured man fled and we did not know how seriously he had been hurt.

"We eventually found him at about 2.50am at Russells Hall Hospital, but he would not talk to officers and ran off.

"Police managed to track him down at a friend's house later in the day. The hospital said he was badly hurt and needed treatment, but he refused to go back and said he did not want to press charges."

Mr Murcott said the attacker had been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries. The sword was confiscated.

Yes, but just wait and see that the man and wife defending their property from thugs will be charged, convicted and jailed, while the "innocent" criminals will be left alone.

The sword was confiscated.

But of course, can't have anyone protecting themselves or their property from crime.

Assault Swords need to be banned. We can't have people using Assault Swords on other people. I'm OK with swords used for hunting but these Assault Swords have one purpose, to KILL people. Something must be done.
