I saw the Apostle (with Robert Duvall) a long time ago. Please help me with my memory. What character did she play?

She played his mother, who died early in the film. You may remember the opening scene where Duvall is riding down a country lane and happens across a grisly auto accident. The old woman riding with him--his mother--was June Carter Cash.
