That helps explain his hauntingly good song and video "Hurt". I forget which modern group initially sang it, but his video is one that I still appreciate for its power and emotional content. It could have been Russian (the masters of saddness evocation).

I hate CW but Johnny and a few others are beyond categories.

My heart goes out on this.

"Hurt" was originally by industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails - I'm still in awe of the power of Johnny's version.

Very sad news - I have June and Johnny's duet on "Jackson" going though my head right now. A huge loss to country music...

It was written by Trent Reznor and originally performed by him as Nine Inch Nails (his band moniker). Johnny's interpretation of this song is beyond compare; I urge anyone who hasn't seen the video to do so. Hauntingly excellent.
