"Hurt" was originally by industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails - I'm still in awe of the power of Johnny's version. We usually have a house full of teenagers and the room goes dead quiet whenever that video comes on.
My daughter and her friends have Johny Cash posters hanging in their rooms. He is an icon with the young people I know.
I also was playing "Jackson" in my head as I read your post. June was a great singer because it went from her heart straight to the listener's heart.
The world has lost one of it's finest women.

I enjoyed it, too. I recall Farah Fawcett performed very well as a serious actress as Duvall's cheating wife. (In all fairness, he cheated, too.) Must get the DVD.

Duets like Jackson with June were highlights. One of my all time favorite songs. She sounded soooo sexy singing about goiing on down to Jackson.

Thanks for that beautiful post on her...

Very appropriate! I had forgotten how beautiful that song was...

I think he did Ring of Fire way before he met June Carter. That was a very popular song.
To: airdale
reading some of the previous posts, June wrote ring of fire. Didn't know that.

She died of complications durring a heart surgery. I see lots of condolances for Johnny which is great, but we seem to be forgetting she was a member of the Carter Family, daughter of Maybelle (wrote "My the Circle Be Unbroken") and step-mother of Roseanne Cash. June Co-wrote "Ring of Fire" and sang "Jackson" and "If I Were a Carpenter" with Johnny. Country Music lost a legend, Johnny Cash lost a wife, and Carlene, Rosie, and John Carter Cash all lost their mother. read more here:

How very sad; she was a good woman, from what I remember seeing of her over the years, on t.v., and different programs. Johnny will sorely miss her, as will all her family; sadly, I don't think Johnny will be able to endure her absence....she was everything to him. I pray for strength for him....he will feel so lost without her by his side. Prayers of comfort to him and her family.

I don't know about that since she and Merle Kilgore wrote the song and Johnny Cash recorded it in 1963. She met him in 1961.
Ring of Fire was his first number one hit. Her sister recorded and performed it first. Her sisters act was a little short and she asked June for something and she and Merle dashed the song off in something like a half hour. She wrote the song about her dread of falling in love with Johnny Cash.
The Carter family were major stars in the country scene. June I know for a while opened for Elvis. I took a class a long time ago from Maybell Carter in the Carter Family songs which was a real honor.

Wildwood flower by Maybell Carter was a favorite and I played it often when I was a disc jockey. I also liked Keep on the Sunny Side a whole lot.
To: hedgetrimmer
Good songs. I liked how they were used in O'brother where art thou.
