Probably One of the Most Vicious Anti-Bush Letters You'll Ever Read
Lewiston Sun-Journal ^ | May 12, 2003 | Paul Macri

Posted on 05/12/2003 1:43:25 PM PDT by bogeybob

Hail to the great hyprocrite

Paul F. Macri, Auburn, Maine

President Bush is a great American, a great American hypocrite, that is.

My stomach turned last Thursday night as Bush’s jet landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and America saw him in a flight suit for the first time since he went AWOL from the Texas National Guard more than 30 years ago.

Don’t those cheering sailors — who truly are brave and did serve their country — know that Dubya conveniently sat out the Vietnam War, not as a protester or Rhodes Scholar, but with a rich boy’s “in” to the National Guard? And he couldn’t even hack that for the length of his sign-up, so he went AWOL his last year to run a Republican campaign in Alabama.

He was never punished, as a regular soldier would have been, and even got an “honorable” discharge.

Karl Rove knows that you can’t lose by underestimating the intelligence of the American voter, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing these pictures soon in campaign ads.

Bush was “unelected” in 2000. Shame on him.

If he’s “unelected” again in 2004, shame on us for having an economic, political and class double standard.

All is forgiven if you went to Yale and then pretended that you were in the military — if your father is a rich Republican and former president of the United States.

Beware being a smart boy from Tennessee who went to Vietnam or a Rhodes Scholar (a true intellectual achievement) from Arkansas. Oh, and also a Democrat.

It's been a long time since I've read a "legitimate newspaper." Most are ecstatic to print any overtly political letter that comes their way---as long as it's anti-Bush, of course.

Hmmmm another interesting thing - the home page at Berman Simmons lists him as "Paul A. Macri", but his New Profile Page lists him as "Paul F. Macri". That's a little strange...

Nawwwww..... not really. Hillary just mis-spelled one of her many pen-names again.

I'm not sure anyone here would consider the people who created that site you directed us to as any kind of "expert" or relevant source concerning President Bush.

The guy who is designated as creator/owner of that site (Will Easton) under the name "Tell the Truth, Inc., Cesar Chavez (St.), San Francisco" Source, was recognized by the Sierra Club for his anti-sprawl site Here, signed a letter to the people of the world denouncing the Iraq War and calling the US Government "a global bully" Here, visits Washington as a member of "Communities against a Radioactive Environment" while denouncing that Iraq War's fight to remove dangerous WMD from Iraq Here, is involved with another company called "Center for Citizens Initiative" where he encourages agricultural rooftop gardens development in Russia with direct funding TO Russia, using a US Grant Here, and speaks of a working in the "former Soviet Union" Here, and is considered a relevant source to motherjones.com here, scroll down to 'Dubya's Missing Year of Service' headline because he directed motherjones to the tompaine.com website and another AWOL article.

You admit to the site's "obvious bias", but did you happen to check the background of the site before taking its information as gospel?

There's nothing wrong with an active Democrat writing a letter to their local paper.

Or a website.

However, when it hits the ether/airwaves, it's nice to know what their biases might be.

I agree. See post #110.

It also sheds light on the strategies that Democrats will be using in 2004...

You bet! Forewarned is fore-armed. Or is it four armed? ;)

I've got lots of reading to do. Funny how people hear what they want to hear - one article quotes a former girlfriend as proof that Bush served his time, but just the girlfriend. Another quotes National Guardsmen, but not the girlfriend. The article you point me to mentions the Guardsmen and the girlfriend. It doesn't look open/shut to me just yet.

This is the gulf between the wealthy and powerful and the average American citizen.

No, he wasn't punished for going AWOL because he didn't go AWOL.

The National Guards are those that have seen the most horrific combat in US history, starting with the beach landing during WWII. Now these guys had balls. Liberals know nothing of the military. And flying F104s or F102s like Bush did is not pic nic, it is highly dangerous job and contribution.

And finally, Joan Macri gets to be forum moderator, working with Gov. Baldacci at the Diversity Conference for Lewiston-Auburn schools at Bates College this spring. For an overview, you can read about the forum here.

Not really a biggie, but it does prove your connection and as a result, proves this guy is more than just an average citizen voicing his opinion. Rather, he is an established voice of the Democrat Party in Maine.

A Rhodes Scholarship may be a true intellectual achievement if you're a leftist; I'm not sure that it's one in general.

I haven't read the whole thread, just up to your comment. I am stunned that I got this far with nobody pointing out that clinton did NOT complete his studies, such as they may have been, at Oxford, but was kicked out of the country (reason rumored to be rape, but it is a fact that he did leave England quickly and did not earn a degree).

Back to algore's "tour" in Vietnam, I understand he was there as a journalist, with bodyguards, for five months. Again, not a full term that a "regular guy" would be assigned. Isn't that his complaint with Bush? Except his facts on GWB are wrong.
