WEAPONS OF MASS OBSTRUCTION

By Tom Barrett

I read with great concern this week that Miguel Estrada, one of President Bush's federal judicial nominees, was considering withdrawing his name from further consideration.

The reason? For TWO YEARS vengeful Democrats have blocked this highly qualified jurist's nomination from reaching the floor of the Senate. Why have they done this? Because they know he has the votes to win the nomination if the full Senate is allowed to express its will.

Miguel Estrada, Priscilla Owen and other judicial nominees being blocked from a vote by the Democrats have passed all the tests. Their fellow judges state they are highly qualified. The American Bar Association states that they are highly qualified. The President's legal experts made sure that they were highly qualified before he nominated them. Then why are a bunch of Senators (most of whom know no more about the law than you or I) blocking them from being voted upon? It's pure partisan politics.

The Democrats don't dare say that these distinguished jurists are not qualified. That would make them look even more foolish than they look now. They don't say that they would lose a floor vote. The votes have been counted and recounted. The President's nominees would be confirmed without doubt. What they do say by their actions is, "We don't care about what the American people want. We don't want these people confirmed, so we will not allow the Senators the American people have elected to represent them to express the will of the people in a floor vote, as the Constitution requires. We don't care if we violate the Constitution. We don't care what America wants. We only care about what is good for our party!"

Friends, the Constitution requires the Senate to fill an important role concerning all Presidential nominations. They are to give him advice, and consent to his nominations unless they have knowledge that the nominee is constitutionally unqualified for the position for which he or she has been nominated. They are NOT allowed to vote nominees down because they don't like their politics, nor (in the case of judges) because they don't like the way they think the judge might rule on cases in the future.

The Democrats know that because the President's nominees meet all constitutional requirements, they would be approved by a large majority if the Democrats allow the vote. So they are circumventing the Constitution by using a ridiculous, outdated Senate rule that allows Senators to block debate by running their mouths about nothing.

As long as they can keep talking (and we know that with politicians that can easily last until the Second Coming) they can block the Senate from moving ahead with important business. In the past Senators have stood for hours reading from the telephone book! Today they can fill the hours reading the list of people the leader of the Democrat Party, Bill Clinton, has had had affairs with.

Whatever stupid thing they spend their time talking about, they are wasting OUR time. America pays these people huge sums of money, when you consider the salaries, the perks, the free travel, the bloated staffing, and so on. We pay them to work for us, to get results. We don't pay them to waste time reading recipes and poems in an effort to obstruct the will of the Senate and the American people.

IMO the Dems are really hurting theirselves by doing this and will pay for it at the next election,

"31 Ways to Pray For Our Military"

This is from Charles Stanley's web site.

When we think of our fellow Americans serving in the military, and the sacrifices and demands that their job places upon them and their families, we are in deep gratitude. Whether they are serving in our homeland, or overseas, their task is a great one.

We have been called upon to pray for them during these desperate days. In an effort to pray more consistently and effectively this list has been compiled. There is one prayer focus and related verse for 31 days.

Let us be faithful in prayer. As long as "the war on terrorism" exists, let us be faithful prayer warriors in behalf of our fellow citizens who have committed themselves to defending our America.

Thank you, DixieSweet!

It was a fun experience and FTH is an excellent interviewer. I was amazed at how she and Billie were able to latch onto my "whatever makes me --me" and put it into such a beautiful setting. FR.com is full of talented people!

Mr. Exit is just fine, and I will pass on your 'hello'. He doesn't think of himself as 'gracious', but he is, and he is my 'rock'.

The flag of the USA showing the American Eagle.
The Eagle represents freedoom and power, with the ability to swoop down from above on in its adversaries. The Eagle has a soft body, but it also has sharp talons.
