Morford makes me ill. What does he know of San Francisco anyway? The San Francisco that was the greatest city ever. The San Francisco that was MY city when I was young. The San Francisco that I wept over when I had to leave because it had changed so much it was no longer recognizable. The beautiful old gray lady...shrouded in fog...violated, raped, demeaned, insulted by those who came from "God Knows Where" to spit on her and to destroy her. I will always see her in my mind and heart and soul as she was...beautiful, sophisticated and proud...and though I can never go home again that once greatest of cities will live on in my heart and soul and memory...I will always remember her as she was once in a beautiful long ago dream.

what was it about SF that drew so many hippies back in the 60's? why there instead of somewhere else?

This is about as over the top as Mr. Morford.
I live in SF. It is very nice.

I didn't grow up on the West Coast, but I did spend a considerable amount of time there in my late teens and early twenties. San Francisco was so beautiful it was heartbreaking.
It makes me very sad to see it now. There's nothing left of the shine it once had. Its what 42nd Street looked like before Rudy shut down the porn shops and strip clubs.
I don't think I'll live long enough to see San Francisco come back from the dead.

You're right - the bastards ruined a once-great city - where people could walk around anywhere at night safely. Now there are neighborhoods where people don't go in the daytime. The last time I was in the Mission, it looked (and smelled) like Tijuana. If someone was knocked out, and carried to the Mission, when he woke up he might think he was in El Salvador. My son lived for several years south of Market Street near the corner of 5th and Harrison; the bums stole his car registration sticker by cutting off a thrid of the license plate - twice! They broke into his car and stole - dirty laundry! San Francisco still has some nice places - but the list is getting smaller every year as the vermin, the gay jerkoffs and the commie politicians make it more of a cesspool than a city.

You sure brought a tear to my eye! The beautiful old gray lady has passed away.
How long before the cancer that took her life takes ours?

How very accurate you are! I remember the city back then too, and avoid the city now out of repugnance, fear and disgust. SF epitomizes what happens when corrupt RATS like Willie Brown are in control and homos and street bums are in the majority making loud noises and huge messes.. A ghastly place whose repellant inhabitants have ruined it foreever.

You have no idea how truly sorry I am about what has happened to the late, great State of California and, in particular, your once grand city of San Francisco. All I can say is that I don't want "THEM" to come here now that they've trashed Kali.
