Report Says CBS Likely to Drop New Segment With Ex-President
Television viewers are apparently not having 'visual relations' with Bill Clinton's weekly debate against Bob Dole on '60 Minutes,' leading industry experts to project CBS will oust the former President from the airwaves.
According to USA Today media colunist Peter Johnson, Clinton and Dole 'have generated virtually no buzz since they premiered in March and have done nothing to boost the sagging newsmagazine's ratings.'
Hence, as executives plan to announce CBS's fall schedule next week, analyists are betting that Clinton-Dole won't be back in September.
Don Hewitt, the show's executive producer, says although no decision has been made about the segment's future, the feature apparently got drowned out by strong viewer interest in the war against Iraq.

Yes, they made the mistake of thinking Clinton was the draw, when the problem was getting an opponent interesting enough to overcome their repulsions and watch Bill anyway.

still blaming others/and the weather of all things,
Yes. They should take a page from the federal government
and make sure the ratings get seasonally adjusted. No more
problem.

Let me tell you what I think contributed to this decision.
The ONLY time I saw it, Dole kicked Clinton's a$$!
It's the only venue I've ever seen Dole EFFECTIVELY go on the attack and win.
I don't thing CBS likes that outcome, irrespective of ratings.

Dole is the one with the pen-Clinton is the one who should be in the pen.

The only show I'd like to see Clinton on is Monica's new show. Now that would be entertaining.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I disagree. Don Hewitt, at least, knows better. Sadly, it's not about ratings at all.

Well damn. Thus may end one of the most ambitious scientific experiments of all time. Although it is popular orthodoxy that time-travel is impossible, 60 MINUTES has stood theoretical physics on its head by leaping back to November 1996 each and every Sunday.
This is why we can't enslave ourselves to market forces in all cases. When we cave to terrible Nielson ratings, important research work like this suffers.

hewitt so deserves this failure since it was he who allowed both clintoons to lie to the public during that stupid and unprecedented Super Bowl interview. hewitt knew they were lying and later boasted about it. Proves what the looney liberal left is capable of to protect their evil agenda. hewitt is an ass____.

Dont kid yourself Clinton was not dumped. the mainstream media adore him and would keep him on forever. I would bet you a dollar he wanted out because HE KNEW HE WAS A FAILURE AT DRAWING AN AUDIENCE!!!! that is what so good about it. He saw first hand people could give a f##k what he says or does anymore.

How many millions did it take for them to learn that they made another mistake? Guess it's straight back to Harlem.
